Our Regional Parks Department is seeking a Park Asset Management Technologist who will be responsible for field inspections to assess and prioritize repair or replacement of parks assets, updating the Asset Management System with findings, and collaborate with park staff ensure accurate collection of asset data.

You are: a keen, hardworking, and independent professional able to work with minimal supervision; enjoy being in the great outdoors; and have a technical eye and aptitude with computer software including GIS software.

This role: (Duties described are intended to be representative of the position and are not to be considered as all-inclusive.)

  • Conduct inspections and assess condition of existing assets throughout the park system, including bridges, picnic tables, viewing towers, roads, parking lots, picnic shelters, trails, water systems, sewer systems, land stability structures and other assets as required;
  • Coordinate technical inspections of buildings and structures requiring specialized technical expertise;
  • Collect asset inventory data including unique identifier asset tagging and GPS locations;
  • Develop and maintain database of record inspections and asset inventory;
  • Develop inspections forms as required;
  • Provide cost estimates for work identified as being necessary through inspections;
  • Provide estimates of an asset’s remaining service life and likely date that replacement will be necessary;
  • Assist in developing the Asset Management Program as necessary;
  • Perform data collection and spatially map park assets in GIS;
  • Record documentation related to the management and evaluation of Parks infrastructure assets;
  • Perform field assignments using GPS equipment;
  • Produce reports on condition assessment and recommendations for maintenance;
  • Produce reports identifying asset improvements for Tangible Capital Assets and other areas to meet required regulations, standards and policies;
  • Modify schematic drawings in ACAD in accordance with existing conditions;
  • Develop and maintain water and sewer systems drawing database;
  • Incorporate asset improvements for viewing on GIS platform;
  • Coordinate asset improvements with IT for installation and update of corporate GIS viewer;
  • Provide recommendations for maintenance and report on implementation status;
  • Develop inspection program for various asset categories;
    Utilize corporate asset management software and incorporate Parks assets and management requirements;
  • Assess portable information technology for application to asset management and make recommendations for use;
  • Trains Parks staff to inspect various infrastructure assets; and
  • Track work completed and coordinate acquisition of work reports and other asset data sheets to update databases & GIS platform.

To be successful, you have:

  • Diploma in Engineering Technology with Civil/Structural specialty and courses related to environmental protection.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with AScTT.
  • Proficiency in the use of various software programs including, MS Office, ACAD, ArcView, and corporate asset management software.
  • Knowledge of standard engineering terminology and applicable practices.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Considerable knowledge of proper safety procedures, WorkSafe BC requirements, environmental regulatory requirements and other statutory requirements.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and prioritize work assignments.
  • Familiar with condition reporting and life-cycle costing principles.
  • Proficiency with GPS equipment and assessing GPS equipment.
  • Ability to work alone and at times in remote locations.
  • Ability to establish working relationships both internally and with external organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate difficult terrain and walk long distances.
  • Valid class 5 BC driver’s license.
