We are seeking an experienced Wireless Technician to work in our fast-paced and ever-changing work environment. This is a rare opportunity to join our Wireless Operations team, supporting our Wide-Area Radio Network, the largest multi-jurisdictional, tri-service emergency radio system in B.C.

Reporting to the Manager, Wireless Operations, you will join a highly technical team who enjoy collaborative trouble shooting, problem solving and issue resolution. You will be responsible for carrying out technical work in the maintenance of the wide area radio system, voice and data user equipment, and other E-Comm wireless systems.

Your day-to-day responsibilities will include;

  • performing scheduled preventative maintenance, ensuring proper functioning of equipment and alarm systems

  • installing and configuring system components

  • participating in acceptance testing and other activities associated with the expansion of the radio system

  • troubleshooting, investigating and resolving operating problems

This role will suit an experienced Wireless specialist who possesses a positive attitude and a customer-first mindset. The ability to communicate calmly and effectively whilst operating in a high-stress, public safety environment is essential to your success.

This is no ordinary Wireless job - this is an opportunity to be part of a team that provides life-critical technical services. The role is varied and at times physically demanding; you must be comfortable travelling to remote sites, working outside in all weather and handling heavy equipment.

Note: Paid after hours on-call monitoring is required on a rotational basis.

What you’ll need:

  • Completion of a Wireless Communications program from a recognized technical institute or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

  • Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia is an essential requirement

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in a fast-paced technical support role

  • Knowledge of Motorola radio products would be advantageous

  • IP networking skills and knowledge of MPLS networks (Cisco Certified Network Associate qualification or similar is desirable)

  • Radio Operator’s Certificate would be beneficial

  • General enterprise-wide technical experience (dealing with servers, databases, SQL, virtualization, VMWare or Linux) would be considered an added benefit

Security Requirements:

As a condition of employment at E-Comm, the required Police Security Clearance applicable to the position must be acquired and maintained. This is a process carried out by our law enforcement partner agencies, facilitated by E-Comm. The minimum residency in Canada to qualify for this position, as established by our law enforcement partner agencies, is five [5] years.

To qualify for this process, a candidate may either be a Canadian Permanent Resident [PR] or Canadian Citizens. We regret any candidates under Student, Visitor, or Work Visas are not eligible for consideration.

Vaccination Requirements: E-Comm 911 has a vaccination policy that is currently suspended. However, should the policy be reinstated, it will be a requirement for all current and future employees.
