The Sr. Project Manager will provide delivery management in the execution of key strategic projects that will enable the achievement of business strategies and objectives. This role will be responsible for projects ranging from small to complex enterprise-wide, multi-year projects. This role will act as a trusted expert to senior leadership and will lead and influence stakeholders throughout the project’s phases and critical milestones. Fundamental aspects of the role include working collaboratively with stakeholders across various functional groups within IMCO (Investments, Investment Operations, Technology, Risk, Performance, Finance, Legal, Treasury, HR etc.) to coordinate activities required for the timely delivery of complex projects and programs. The Project Manager will utilize project expertise along with experience in investments, asset management and/or pension industries (or other related areas) to provide strong oversight of risks, timelines, costs, outcomes and project quality. As a senior representative of the EPMO, the role will adhere to and steward activities in accordance with IMCO’s Project Framework (IPF).
As a Member of Our Team You Will be Responsible For:
- Actively manage multiple projects or a large-scale high impact initiative.
- Participate in strategic planning and prioritization of portfolio initiatives and understand competing priorities across business units.
- Lead and develop full-scale project plans ranging from small to large projects with a view on the critical path and changes needed to ensure quality delivery and operationalize processes and tools the project introduces.
- Work with the Project Sponsor and key stakeholders (IMCO, Clients, Vendors) to understand business objectives and define appropriate outcomes, milestones, required costs and resources to successfully deliver projects and meet business objectives.
- Define and advise project scope, plan, key deliverables, risks, budget, communications, resources, the objectives and value proposition of the project; attain alignment with senior stakeholders and project resources to ensure the successful delivery of the project.
- Develop approach based on size, complexity, mission-critical, enterprise-level projects and with the appropriate level of planning and the right balance of agility and predictability.
- Develop and deploy the appropriate project management methodology and strategies for the successful delivery of projects and the inherent strategic benefits and establish a project.
- Manage the risk process including identification and documentation of potential risks, development and execution of mitigation strategies & contingency plans, reporting / visibility on all risks, and tracking / escalating risks to resolution.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders at various levels to ensure effective collaboration, management of project portfolio interdependencies, change management and communications on projects.
- Maintain awareness of risks, issues, dependencies created by other projects, future initiatives, industry threats and collaborate with other project teams, Sponsors and stakeholders to assess interdependencies and determine contingency plans and options.
- Report to key stakeholders and Sponsor, as planned or as-needed, on the health of all elements of the project plan in adherence to EPMO reporting guidelines e.g Working Committees, Steering Committees.
- Manage unforeseen changes effectively by working with Sponsor and stakeholders to clearly understand impacts to schedules, costs, capacity plans, and dependencies, etc.
- Provide recommendations and contingency plans to ensure project outcomes are realized.
- Communicate effectively with all team members; promote teamwork and collaborative resolution of issues. Initiate and prioritize team deliverables.
- Ensure project/program artifacts are developed and maintained throughout the project life cycle; including but not limited to charters, implementation plans, resource models, requirements, change requests, issue and action logs, communications, change management plans and Technology SDLC artifacts (if applicable).
- Develop, maintain and monitor project budgets, and scope to ensure successful delivery of requirements within established timelines and budget.
- Lead assigned project resources and proactively manage capacity plans ensuring proper coverage, competencies and skills are in place and optimize performance and budget.
- Ensure adherence with project control procedures, guidelines and policies.
- Provide leadership to team members and stakeholders to promote organizational project maturity and contribute towards maturity of the EPMO’s methodology and team capabilities.
- Coach and mentor project managers, business analysts and members of the project team.
- Advise, counsel and facilitate meetings to address issues and problems and provide leadership to members of the project team.
- Embrace and demonstrate high ethical standards.
What do you need to succeed?
- Comprehensive knowledge of project principles, practices, methodologies and tools.
- 10+ years’ experience managing investment industry projects (Asset Management, Pension, Capital Markets, Wealth Management industries).
- Understanding of both public and private investment lifecycles.
- PMP certification is preferred.
- Proven ability to reconcile competing opinions, influence and facilitate difficult discussion topics at working team and executive levels.
- Organizational savvy and business expertise to devise and advocate well-considered solutions that have a direct impact/benefit to the business.
- Good problem solving and innovative thinking skills, must be able to articulate solutions, ideas and recommendations through effective issue resolution.
- Demonstrable experience actively building and maintaining relationships across teams and with stakeholders.
- Ability to lead and motivate project team members through obstacles and setbacks. Able to understand each team member’s capabilities and optimize their efforts.
- Excellent communication (both written and verbal), facilitation and active listening skills.
- Experience in vendor management.
- Responds well to ambiguity and works efficiently to clarify situations and outcomes.
- Ability to work well within a smaller organization that is growing, improving and evolving its processes, operational efficiencies and project methodology.
- Employ a spirit of 'get it done together' sharing practices and ideas.
