Position Description Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate and timely financial records for Surrey Place and providing full cycle accounting for the Surrey Place Charitable Foundation, a related legal entity. This position will support month-end and year-end close, perform detailed account reconciliations, support physician payments, and provide back up support across core finance functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll. The Accountant will also play a key role in audit preparation, and in ensuring compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Accounting and Reconciliation:

Maintain accurate general ledger records and perform journal entries.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations including, but not limited to:
-
Bank and cash accounts
-
Capital assets and amortization
-
Investments accounts
-
Accruals and prepaid expenses
-
Deferred revenue and restricted funds
-
Investigate and resolve variances in a timely manner.
-
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, including journal entries and supporting schedules.
Foundation Accounting:

Maintain full accounting records for the Foundation, including:
-
General ledger, journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
-
Revenue recognition and restricted fund tracking
-
Investment and donation reconciliations
-
Prepare financial reports, reconciliations, and schedules for internal and external stakeholders.

Support budgeting and forecasting for the Foundation.
-
Assist with Foundation audits, donor reporting, and compliance requirements.
Physician Payments and Specialized Accounting:

Process and reconcile physician payments, including:
-
OHIP billings
-
Stipends and other contractual payments
-
Maintain accurate documentation and ensure compliance with applicable agreements and policies.
Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Payroll Support:

Provide backup support for:
-
Accounts payable processing and vendor management
-
Accounts receivable billing and collections
-
Payroll processing and reconciliations
-
Assist with reconciliations and maintaining internal controls.
Other duties:
- Support external and internal audits by preparing schedules, working papers and required documentation.
- Participate in process improvement initiatives and system enhancements.
- Perform other accounting duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Actively enrolled in the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Program is an asset.
- 3 years’ progressive accounting experience, preferably in a not-for-profit, healthcare, or public-sector environment.
- Experience working with multiple entities or complex funding structures is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience with account reconciliations, fund accounting and deferred revenue, as well as month-end and year-end close processes.
- Excellent communication skills (oral and written), interpersonal skills, and collaborative team player.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, and highly detail oriented.
- Experience with NetSuite is considered an asset.
- Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, PivotTables, and data analysis.
- Proficient with MS Office (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
- A satisfactory Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening).
- Fluency in French is considered an asset.
