About the Role Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Engineering Manager directs and controls the plant’s engineering, maintenance, and utility operations. The Manager works cooperatively with Production, Quality Assurance, Supply Chain, Human Resources and Health, Safety & Environment to accomplish the goals and objectives of the company. The Manager ensures the operation of Canada Royal Milk’s mechanical, electrical and utility systems in accordance with all applicable regulations. The Manager is dedicated to achieving production and quality targets, and creates an environment where employees take pride in their work. An experienced leader, the Manager will be responsible for developing an effective team. The Manager ensures that there exists, within the engineering team, an attitude of absolute intolerance for unsafe situations. All member of the department are encouraged never to implement any change, whether directly instructed to, or under his/her own initiative, without first questioning its impact in relation to product safety/quality, people safety and the environment. No compromises should be tolerated.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities In-depth knowledge of food processing plant and technology. Maintenance technologies. Knowledge of utilities and WWTP. Knowledge of food safety, regulatory requirements for food safety and hygienic engineering (OSH&R). Understanding of financial analysis and relevant business drivers. Industrial Services and Energy Management. Good understanding of electricity, control, and automation. 1-3 years TPM / continuous improvement process development. Strong organizational, analytical, presentation skills, and problem solving. Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and to adapt quickly to changing priorities. Ability to interpret and implement regulatory rulings. Demonstrated commitment to safety and the environment. Strong customer service orientation Practical computer skills: (MS Office, MS Project, SAP, etc.)
Key Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for planning and directing all aspects of engineering activities within the company and take innovative initiatives in organizing and prioritizing engineering resources. Plan and manage the establishment of departmental budget. Responsible for matters concerning electrical, mechanical, powerhouse, wastewater treatment and on-site supervisory inspection and evaluation of production equipment and assisting the production lines in solving quality and technical problems. Frequent communication with regulatory agencies and the coordination of inspections and reporting as required. Liaise daily with Production and Quality Assurance to resolve technical issues and to ensure optimal operation. Ensure that all the team members are familiar with and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), HACCP, FDA, CFIA and other applicable regulations. Manage a cross-functional multidisciplinary team. Provide leadership and supervision to staff by providing work direction, performance feedback, and recommendations for training and development. Ensure tasks are assigned to appropriately trained, qualified engineering resources and that mentoring is available or provide oversight to ensure this occurs. Promote a positive working environment, including continuously improving/maintaining the team culture and establishing high levels of employee involvement. Oversee the plant maintenance activities; ensure that preventative maintenance and equipment optimization programs are implemented and reviewed on a frequent basis. Maintains & operates plant as per Technical Safety and Standards Authority (TSSA) regulations. Ensure OSHA regulations and Quality Assurance protocols are fully complied with. Write plant or building operation reports. Oversee plant maintenance and cleanliness. All other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions This role requires flexibility to support a 24/7 manufacturing operation. The Maintenance Supervisor may be required to work outside regular business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, based on production needs. Working conditions include: Primarily administrative duties with regular presence on the plant floor Exposure to indoor and outdoor environments and varying weather conditions Physical activity including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and occasional heavy lifting (up to 22.6 kg / 50 lbs) Mandatory use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, work boots, and hard hats, gloves Compliance with strict hygiene and food safety protocols Restrictions on loose clothing, jewelry, and electronic devices in production areas
