Job Title: Seasonal Maintenance Specialist Airside
Reports to: Manager, Airfield Services
Salary: Band 4 ($77,181 - $86,187)
Term position: Starting asap - mid/late April 2025
Closing Date: December 2, 2025
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager, Airfield Services, the Airfield Maintenance Specialist maintains and repairs all aircraft operation surfaces. This role assists in providing a safe environment for our aircraft, the travelling public and cargo at our 24-hour operation. This seasonal role is to maintain the airside area during the winter season.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and repair all aircraft operating surfaces including by not limited to security fencing, gates, signage, roadways, painting of markings, landscaping, snow/removal, and wildlife control
- Operate heavy and or medium sized equipment on active and inactive runways in proximity of other equipment
- General maintenance and minor repairs on equipment
- Application of anti-icing and de-icing chemicals at application rates prescribed by others.
- Ability to maintain radio contact and operate under radio direction with the Airfield Duty Manager and air traffic controllers
- Carry out ice control on roads, parking, and service areas within the Winnipeg Airports Authority; and
- Provide support to the airport emergency services in areas of crowd control, shuttling services, clearing access ways in the event of an emergency
Selection Criteria include:
- Minimum of Grade 12 education or equivalent
- Minimum of two (2) winters’ experience operating heavy and/or medium equipment
- Demonstrated proficiency in the operation of heavy and/or medium equipment
- Knowledge of operation and repair of winter and/or summer maintenance equipment (airport-specific equipment considered an asset)
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures
- Experience or knowledge of airport operations considered an asset.
- Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement (Class 1 license considered an asset); must provide driver’s abstract
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Restricted Radio/Telephone Operator Certificate, Airport Vehicle Operator Permit “D” (AVOP), Airport Restricted Area Identification Card, and Possession and Acquisition License (PAL)
- Experience using Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office; ability to prepare basic reports
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and multitask effectively
- Physically able to perform manual labour (lifting/pushing up to 50 lbs, walking, shoveling snow or gravel as required)
- Ability to work shift work in a 24/7 environment
- Effective oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
