This new‑graduate opportunity on the Product Verification team offers hands‑on exposure to real optical networking platforms used by leading telecommunications and cloud providers worldwide. The role provides a strong foundation in system validation, automation, and cross‑functional collaboration, supported by mentorship from experienced engineers and clear pathways for technical growth.
How you will make an impact:
- Execute product‑ and system‑level verification to validate performance, reliability, and functionality of optical networking platforms
- Design, develop, and maintain Python‑based automation to improve test coverage and efficiency
- Collaborate with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to investigate issues and validate expected behavior
- Analyze test results, identify defects, and contribute to structured root‑cause investigations
- Document test execution, results, and findings in reports used across engineering teams
- Support validation across multiple layers of the network stack, including system, management, and northbound interfaces
The Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
- Strong interest in networking, system testing, or test automation
- Experience with Python programming through coursework, internships, or personal projects
- Ability to execute test procedures, analyze results, and apply critical thinking to problem solving
- Clear written and verbal communication skills in a collaborative team environment
- High attention to detail and commitment to product quality
Nice to Haves:
- Exposure to test automation frameworks or Jupyter Notebooks
- Familiarity with Linux command‑line tools and basic lab equipment
- Understanding of networking concepts and management interfaces such as Command Line Interface (CLI), NETCONF, REST, or gRPC
- Experience with large language models (LLMs), including prompt engineering, fine‑tuning, or evaluation
- Awareness of MLOps concepts such as data pipelines, containerization (Docker), or continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
Pay Range:
- The annual pay range for this position is $62,700 – $100,100.
Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.
Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
