If you are a motivated and passionate individual who shares our conviction that a better world is possible through improved nutrition, wants to leave the world a little better than they found it, and is looking to be part of a global team with a clear vision, we want to hear from you. Please consider applying for the position below.

Know our team

Nutrition International's Partnerships and Growth unit is a diverse team of dedicated professionals in business development, advocacy and government relations. The unit serves as a knowledge management hub and facilitates decision-making of all resource mobilization efforts, promotes standardized prepositioning and proposal processes, and supports business development capacity building across NI teams. The unit specifically leads NI's response to competitive funding opportunities (RFPs) through prepositioning and proposal development and leads on the cultivation of private sector donors through prospecting and stewardship. We support resource mobilization efforts at the regional and country level by supporting bid planning, outreach and engagement with donors and partners, and proposal development. The unit works closely with other teams across the organization to grow and diversify resources for Nutrition International's global strategy and Investment Case. Currently, Nutrition International is seeking applications for a Senior Advisor, Philanthropic Partnerships to be based in Ottawa, Canada working 2 days/week in-office. This is a 12+ month mat leave contract.

About the role

In this role you will:

Fundraising and Resource Mobilization:

  • Identify and cultivate new and existing targets: use your network and build upon an existing database of potential targets, primarily for large foundations and philanthropies. Update the prospect management database with relevant information related to donor priorities, contacts, and results.

– Strategic engagement resources: design and adapt compelling materials (briefing notes, case statements, presentations) and craft tailored proposals for high-value private philanthropy audiences.

  • Get ‘in the door’ and make pitches: be determined in your pursuit of ‘getting in the door’ with potential donors who have interest in public health and nutrition.
  • Write concept notes and proposals: partner with technical and country staff to strengthen proposals and pitches by providing private philanthropy insights, tailoring messaging, and helping align with donor priorities, as needed. You will also support the closing of donor funding agreements, before handing over the project management responsibilities to the Programs team.
  • Steward existing donors: maintain contact with an existing and growing portfolio of private donors to maximize the opportunities for future continued support. Develop donor recognition and renewal strategies and ensure accurate, timely implementation to recognize donors appropriately.
  • Improve processes and systems: you will build on the existing system for identifying, cultivating, asking, and stewarding private donors; document all donor moves, continuously updating the prospect management database with relevant information related to donor strategies, contacts, and results.

Strategy and Planning:

  • Goal setting: work with Partnerships & Growth leadership to define goals, objectives, and metrics for the portfolio.
  • Pipeline development and management: help develop and maintain a pipeline with a view to philanthropic donor targets.
  • Market analysis: conduct market analysis within prioritized donor segments and develop prospect research and engagement strategies.

– Engage leadership: support the Nutrition International leadership team to plan and conduct partnership and outreach activities, including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of high-value target donors within our existing network.

  • Policies and procedures: support the development of required fundraising policies and procedures that reflect the organization's vision, mission, values, and ethical fundraising practices.
