Electrical Technician

Number of positions: 1 Job Location:

Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Resident

Annual salary: $64K - $67K

Position Highlights

Performs a variety of set ups and tests on electrical equipment, components and cables

What you'll do

  1. Sets up and carries out electrical tests under the supervision of an engineer or technologist.

  2. Performs laboratory measurements following established procedures and records the results.

  3. Operates computers and test instruments as required for testing. Performs routine repairs, maintenance and calibration

of electrical test equipment, tools and instruments.

  1. Builds or modifies test jigs and support structures to be used for electrical tests.

  2. Specifies and purchases materials and equipment needed for routine operation of electrical test labs.

  3. Maintains test facilities in a safe and organized condition.

  4. Maintains log books and files to document tests performed, operating procedures, equipment calibration, etc. 8. Performs

duties of a minor nature related to the above duties which do not affect the rating of the job. This includes the performance

of duties across disciplines in a job of the same or lower job group.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Required:

  • Good working knowledge of how to prepare tests for a variety of electrical components and cables.
  • Good working knowledge of electrical analysis procedures, testing standards and quality assurance principles.
  • Working knowledge of how to calibrate and troubleshoot related instrumentation.
  • Good knowledge of related testing standards and procedures.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Ability to modify existing test methods to perform unique tests or achieve different results.
  • Ability to demonstrate and train technical staff of specific testing techniques.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Basic report writing skills.
  • Basic knowledge of related safety and WHMIS regulations.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications.

What you bring

Certificate of Technology from an Institute of Technology in Electronics (power/control option), Electrical, Power,

Telecommunications, Instrumentation or Automation disciplines with preference given to the discipline directly relating to the

position or lab.

Two (2) years of related experience working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a variety of electrical equipment,

components and cables.

Please be advised that this role has been assessed as safety sensitive and pre-qualification alcohol and drug testing will be

required as a pre-condition to employment.

A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License (Class 5) in good standing.

Annual Salary - $64K - $69K

If there are no fully qualified applicants, candidates who do not meet the experience requirements, may be considered as

Electrical Testing Technologist 1 Trainees. Applicants with demonstrated applicable experience may be given partial credit

towards the four (4) year program.
