As a member of the Centre for Experiential Learning and Student Engagement portfolio and reporting to the Director, the Student Employment Specialist plays a role in supporting the daily administration of on-campus student employment. This position is responsible for the administration, tracking and reporting of on campus student employment for the Work-Op program (Student Affairs funded), and other external grant funded opportunities such as Canada Summer Jobs. This role contributes to the success of campus employment opportunities for students. In addition, this position provides general support for the Centre for Experiential Learning and Student Engagement portfolio to support student success, engagement, and retention.

Duties:

  • Review and post on-campus student employment opportunities
  • Initiate student employment appointments by submitting appropriate information to HR
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders to support student employment opportunities, such as department contacts (supervisors), HR, Payroll, IT and other areas as needed
  • Track and apply funding allocations for opportunities funded by Student Affair's Work-Op program funding
  • Maintain student employment related information in department and institutional databases
  • Provide front line service related to on-campus student employment
  • Maintain program resources such as documents and web content
  • Provides administrative support for the area as needed including onboarding, financial tasks, meeting logistics, event support (room bookings, catering, etc), and ordering office supplies
  • May involve other duties as assigned by the Director

Required Qualifications:

Office administration certificate from an appropriately accredited institution and a minimum three years' recent, related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Experience using databases, MS office
  • Experience working in a campus student employment office
  • Experience with computer programs related to employment systems
  • Demonstrated ability to provide clear, calm and informed guidance to all users

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Communications or Bachelor of Business

  • Work experience in a university setting, employment services or human resources

  • Experience with Orbis

  • Experience with HRIS systems

  • Experience with financial tasks and systems
