The Hotel Accountant will contribute to the overall success of Coast Hotels by providing clerical and data entry support to Coast Coal Harbour Vancouver Hotel by APA and Finance & Accounting. This role is based at Coast Coal Harbour Vancouver Hotel by APA and reports to the centralized accounting department at the Corporate Office, based in Vancouver, BC.

Responsibilities:

  • Handles administrative duties in relation to the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Follows established procedures and policies within the Finance & Accounting department when completing tasks
  • Processes accounts which may include collections, billing, posting of payments including cash, cheques, EFTs and credit cards in a timely manner
  • Maintains files, records and statements
  • Reconciles specific accounts and any other assigned accounts daily/weekly
  • Researches and resolves payment discrepancies and brings abnormal differences to the manager's attention
  • Assists the manager in preparation of monthly financial statements and other end of the month duties
  • Verifies that all charges, taxes, calculations and extensions of each invoice is accurate and in compliance with the original contract and the sales and settlements are posted
  • Investigates, documents and obtains adequate approval of credit applications in accordance with company policy
  • Acts as an Ambassador for the Finance & Accounting department, including responding to basic internal / external inquiries
  • Ensures the safety and security of the property, the ambassadors, and guests when completing tasks
  • Inputs data into the appropriate database
  • Produces statistics and reports on the data as per standard formats
  • Other duties as required

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Secondary School Diploma
  • 1 to 2 years of related work experience
  • Knowledge of basic A/R and A/P functions
  • Advanced communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Technical aptitude
  • Attention to detail
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite with strong emphasis on Excel skills
  • Ability to identify and solve problems
  • Strong phone manner/etiquette
  • Some experience with conflict resolution an asset
  • Additional education in the field of Accounting an asset
  • Exemplifies Coast's Core Values and enjoys working in a culture of accountability
