About the role
Job Purpose:
Comec Energy Services is looking to hire a Heavy Equipment Technician to perform skilled tasks in the mechanical repair and maintenance of heavy trucks and related heavy equipment including Combo Vac, Straight Vac, Semi Vac, Tank Truck, Pressure Truck and Hydro Vac and other pieces of equipment as assigned. Work assignments will be received in the form of oral or written work orders, but the employee is expected to determine the nature and extent of needed repairs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensuring that Health and Safety is the number one priority by complying with all safe work practices, policies, and processes and acting in a safe manner at all times.
- Ensure customer and client satisfaction by following all client regulations/rules and providing excellent customer service at all times. Primary contact for service requests and inquiries.
- Complete and maintain all required paperwork and documentation properly within set timelines; this includes accurate maintenance reports and documentation, work tickets, JSA’s, hazard id’s and daily time sheets.
- Follow all local, provincial and federal compliance regulations and rules, follow company policies and procedures for routine maintenance, perform general housekeeping to ensure units are operating properly and report any inefficiency.
- Demonstrate a commitment to environmental compliance and safe work procedures.
- Diagnose defects in heavy duty equipment
- Performs mechanical repairs on equipment in the shop and road calls when required
Diagnose, repair and maintain multiple equipment types; this includes Combo Vac, Straight Vac, Semi Vac, Tank Truck, Pressure Truck and Hydro Vac.

Communicate any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the supervisor in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting

Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology and repair techniques

Supervise and mentor apprentices

Due to hazards associated with the position this position is safety sensitive and subject to drug & alcohol testing; this includes pre access, post incident, reasonable cause and random testing

Other duties required
Qualifications:
?-? Valid Operator’s License
?-? Registered Apprentice in the Heavy Equipment Technician Trade in good standing in Alberta
?-? Proven mechanical abilities in hydraulics and electrical, including schematics and diagnostics
?-? Ability to work independently in a busy environment
?-? Experience with routine maintenance operations
?-? Good, positive attitude, with the ability to accept last minute changes to schedule
?-? Indoor and outdoor work. Work outdoors in harsh weather conditions
?-? Must be reliable and punctual
?-? On call as needed with the ability to work shift work (days/nights) as required
?-? Must be a self-starter with the ability to work with a minimum of supervision, be highly motivated, energetic, and enjoy working as part of a team

?-? CVIP License an Asset
Working Conditions:
?-? Able and willing to work long hours
?-? Able and willing to work nights, early mornings, weekends and various shifts

?-? Able and willing to work outside in the extreme cold or extreme hot conditions with PPE on
Physical Requirements:
?-? Ability to regularly handle and lift up to 50lbs.
?-? Ability to pass a medical fit for work exam
?-? Ability to pass a pre-access Drug & Alcohol test
