Position Description
Reporting to the Manager, Coding and Data Quality, the Health Information Analyst's primary role will be to improve and maintain the integrity of the coding database through the development and implementation of audits and processes, and through the timely submission of data as mandated. The analyst will also support internal and external stakeholders by fulfilling custom report requests to support various research and quality improvement-based initiatives.
Here's What You'll Do
- Contribute and guide the development of central online coding resources
- Perform regular coding audits on DAD and NACRS to ensure accuracy, consistency and adherence to standards, developing custom reports and audits as needed.
- Support the month-end coding process by developing, analyzing, distributing and validating quality assurance reports.
- Ensure timely submission of coded data to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) and Integrated Decision Support (IDS).
- Complete routine and ad hoc reporting, such as Daily Bed Census, as required.
- Support system maintenance and upgrades for both Med2020 and 3M.
- Provide support to coding team around workload distribution and general operations, as needed.
- Collaborate with researchers by evaluating data needs of research data requests and providing custom reports.
- Serve as subject matter expert for coding inquiries from internal and external stakeholders regarding coding processes and best practices.
- Support quality improvement projects.
- Stay informed by participating in on-going educational workshops/courses and establish benchmarking best practices to improve professional knowledge of coding processes.
- Other duties as assigned by Manager.
Here's What You'll Need
- Graduate from an accredited Health Information Management program required (college or undergraduate level).
- CHIM certification/ Active membership with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
- Minimum 2 years coding and abstracting experience with Discharge Abstract Database (DAD) or National Ambulatory Care Reporting System (NACRS) required.
- Understanding of ICD-10-CA/CCI coding and HIG/CMG+/CACS Grouping Methodology
- Experience with hospital funding models (HSFR, HBAM, QBPs)
- Experience with MED2020 WinRecs Abstracting System, 3M Codefinder and Microsoft Office Applications
- Working knowledge of Epic EHR is an asset
- Expert skill in Microsoft Teams, OneNote and associated online tools for collaboration
- Expertise in report writing using tools such as Crystal Reports, Microsoft Access, PowerBI, MicroStrategy, Cognos
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in SQL is considered a strong asset
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail a must
- Self-motivation and service orientation
- Excellent interpersonal, communication and customer service skills, coupled with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize multiple work assignments/timelines and manage stakeholder expectations.
- Understands the importance of fostering a culture of equity, diversity & inclusion.
