We are searching for a Part-time Cook II to join our Transitional Care team based in Bedford, Nova Scotia.
The transitional care model supports patients/families who require additional time, services, and support to transition back to home/community, by providing an alternate space with intentional programming, building design, and resource allocation to increase the probability of returning to their previous living situation.

About the Opportunity
- Panning and preparing meals according to established standards, procedures, recipes and menus
- Assisting with the preparation of catering services for internal and external events
- Providing input to the Executive Chef and/or Production Kitchen Supervisors into division menu development
- Preparing special diets and meals to meet appropriate therapeutic menu modifications according to established guidelines
- Reporting any recipe shortages, discrepancies or quality issues to the Executive Chef or supervisor in a timely manner
- Freezing overproduction in accordance with the production schedule
- Packaging food products for shipping according to production sheets
- Receiving, storing and rotating inventory of all required foods and supplies
- Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily; maintains cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, kettles, mixers and others
- Assists other areas of the kitchen as required
- Maintaining safety and sanitation in the kitchen to meet legislative and organizational standards
- Promotes a safety culture by continuously working safely including but not limited to identifying and reporting hazards, following safe work practices and procedures, wearing personal protective equipment, supporting others to work safely and completing safety education
- Ensures client safety by following and applying all standard operational procedures, safe work practices and training provided
- Performs all other duties as assigned
About You
In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:
- High School diploma or equivalent education
- Minimum one (1) year experience in volume food preparation in hospitality or healthcare
- Demonstrated experience working and communicating with internal and external customers to meet their needs in a polite, courteous, and cooperative manner
- Previous experience working in a Retirement Living or Long-Term Care environment
- Journeyman Cooks papers from an accredited institution preferred
- CPR and Emergency First Aid certification
- Advanced/Basics Food Safety Training/ Food Handlers Course is required
- Extensive knowledge of food safety practices
- Extensive knowledge of food preparation and quality standards
