School District 72 is looking for a temporary1.0****FTESkills****forLife****(SFL)Teacher to join our team of educators at Southgate****MiddleSchool who strives to bring the district's learning beliefs to life.
School District 72 (Campbell River) is located on the east coast of central Vancouver Island, extending north to Sayward and south to Oyster River. The district also includes the outer islands of Read, Cortes, and Quadra. The district serves over 5,600 students in 18 schools with a diverse range of programs that are progressive and responsive to the educational needs and interests of students.
The district respects and values the relationships with all First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who reside in these territories. It is with respectful consideration that the programs and services provided to students and staff acknowledge their histories, cultural contributions, and contemporary concerns.
Qualifications****
- A Diploma or Degree in Special Education, with coursework in the following areas: Intellectual Disabilities, Autism, Math Remediation, Exceptional Children, Behaviour Interventions, and Assessment and Evaluation with training to use Level B assessment tools.
- At least two years of successful classroom teaching experience at the appropriate level.
- Extensive knowledge and practice in modification and adaptation strategies for various levels of student performance and in designing remediation techniques for students with complex learning profiles.
- Experience working with students in an alternate setting.
- Demonstrated skills in time management and record keeping; interpersonal, verbal, and written communication; conflict resolution; and collaboration.
- Demonstrated philosophy that supports integration and inclusion for students with special needs.
- Demonstrated ability to advocate for students with inclusive needs.
- Ability to collaboratively develop, implement, and evaluate an IEP in consultation with classroom teachers; parents, students, district personnel and community professionals.
- An understanding of computer technology and experience with students with Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
- Demonstrated leadership in working as a team member with students, staff, educational assistants, and parents.
- Ability to design and implement an effective life skills and academic program for secondary aged children who have met the criteria for our Skills for Life (SFL) Program.
- Proven skills in meeting the diverse behavioural and emotional needs of secondary aged children; and the ability to take a leadership role in the scheduling and training of staff involved in the program.
- An understanding of trauma informed practice.
- An understanding of assessment for learning and the ability to demonstrate its applications in designing differentiated instructional strategies for use in classrooms and other learning situations.
- Ability to demonstrate how current practices align with SD72 learning beliefs.
