IT Technical Team Lead

Reporting to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the IT Technical Team Lead will serve as the primary hands-on expert for all IT services in our pre-K to 12 independent school. This role is the go-to resource for the IT team, students, staff, and partners, ensuring exceptional service, reliability, and security across infrastructure, networks, and systems.
Situated within the Information Technology (IT) Department, this position drives technological excellence, supervises the IT team, and supports the School's educational mission by integrating innovative solutions that enhance teaching, learning, and operations.
Occasional weekend work may be required if services are offline or disrupted.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Responsible for hands-on aspects of all IT services for the school, including installation, cabling, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware, software, networks, and systems.
- Serve as the go-to person for all aspects of IT for the IT team, students, staff, and partners, providing expert guidance and resolution.
- Supervise the IT team, including setting work priorities, contributing to mentoring and performance evaluations, and reporting to the Chief Information Officer.
- Ensure the IT department provides exceptional service and support to students, staff, and partners, fostering a collaborative and responsive environment.
- Monitor and manage support tickets, prioritizing issues, overseeing the help desk process, and analyzing trends to improve efficiency.
- Monitor and proactively, promptly act on systems monitoring notifications/alerts to prevent disruptions.
- Ensure reliability and uptime of infrastructure, network, and systems through proactive monitoring, maintenance, backup management, and disaster recovery planning.
- Manage CCTV, PA system and VoIP infrastructure, including setup, maintenance, and integration with other systems.
- Ensure security of systems, implement robust protocols to protect sensitive data, and provide regular training to staff on safe use of technology and digital citizenship.
- Ensure reliability of backups and recovery
- Develop and implement IT policies, including data privacy compliance and technology roadmaps aligned with the school's needs.
- Manage the lifecycle of IT assets (hardware, software, services), including inventory tracking, purchases, and safe disposal in compliance with environmental and data security standards.
- Manage and track asset deployments and ownerships.
- Manage licenses and subscriptions for all software, hardware, and online services, ensuring cost-effectiveness and timely renewals.
- Manage third-party vendors and partners, including evaluations, contract negotiations, and ongoing relationship management.
- Ensure processes, procedures, configurations, and any IT-relevant documentation are maintained and kept up to date.
- Research, evaluate, and recommend new technologies, hardware, and software to support innovation in teaching and learning.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate educational technology tools.
- Assist in IT budget preparation, vendor evaluations, and contract negotiations.
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders, providing updates on technical challenges, solutions, and project progress.
- Additional duties as required to support the IT Department's goals.
The successful candidate will have the following skills, background and interests:
- Minimum Bachelor's in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, plus at least 5 years of experience in IT support or leadership roles, preferably in an educational setting.
- Proficiency in network management (Fortinet, Meraki, Nagios), infrastructure (VMWare, Proxmox, Windows Server), operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux), cloud services (AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure), and educational tools (Google Classroom, Microsoft 365).
- Strong knowledge of IT Service Management (ITIL)
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity practices, data privacy regulations, and IT asset management systems.
- Experience supervising teams, managing help desks, and overseeing IT infrastructure in a K-12 environment.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues, implement scalable solutions, and ensure high systems uptime.
- Proficiency in composing and analyzing end-user and technical documentation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
- Organizational skills to meet deadlines, manage competing priorities, and handle on-call responsibilities as needed.
- Self-motivated, independent worker with the drive to lead projects to completion and mentor team members.
- Track record of conducting research, evaluating technologies, and presenting comprehensive reports.
- Tactful, good judgment, and an ability to work collaboratively with teams from all departments, including faculty and administration.

Pay Range:
Annual pay range: $91,000 - $112,000
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
