Job Description:
POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY:
During the summer, families are stressed to find supervision and meaningful activities for their children. We will support families and nurture their children in holistic programming. The Day Camp Counsellor is responsible for assisting in the development, planning, and implementation of summer activities for children ages 7-12 years old, both on site and away from the city at The Salvation Army Camp Sunrise for one week in end of July.
The Day Camp Counsellor is required to perform their duties in a manner consistent with The Salvation Army Boundless Vancouver’s core values and to ensure neighbors’ safety and well-being. The job requires responsibility for planning, implementation and evaluation of the program provided to our neighbours.
The Day Camp Counsellor is highly organized, an effective leader, and a go-getter with the ability to work with minimum supervision.
This a Fixed Term Contract Position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The incumbent may perform all, some, or similar range of duties.
- Plan, coordinate or lead skills workshops to children (ie, programming - drama, sports, cross-cultural understanding, spiritual practices, volunteering/community service).
- As scheduled, work alongside food security programs, through interaction with families in need, for registration referrals and in providing operational support.
- If applicable, work with team to lead children and youth to respond to the Gospel through presentation and prayer.
- Develop relationships with families, encouraging happy and well-developed children and youth, living in peace with themselves and others.
- Working with Corps Officer/pastor, provide emotional care and spiritual care to enrich their lives and allow them to reach their full potential and the welfare of the city.
- Participate in staff training and development.
- Know and act in accordance with security procedures of The Salvation Army to ensure the safety and confidentiality of participants and information.
- Assist in planning, administration and operations of annual Back to School event.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned (set up, clean up, communication).
- As directed, support pre-planned program activities for the community (food bank, crafts, sports, games, music, homework stations, Bible-based devotions, community church, meetings etc.).
- Work in a team setting supporting various tasks and activities.
- Maintain strict confidentially of all matters pertaining to the program participants.
- Adhere to policies and procedures relating to the programs.
- Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Reports directly to the Corps Officer. Works alongside and assists the Youth & Family Ministries Coordinator.

FINANCIAL AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Minor material responsibilities.
- The incumbent will not be involved in receiving, handling or disbursements of funds.
- The incumbent has no input into the annual budget.
The above responsibilities must be discharged in accordance with The Salvation Army’s Mission Statement, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- A busy office and day camp environment.
- Both indoor and outdoor work environment.
- Off site at an overnight camp, if applicable.
- Work-related stress.
- May be exposed to the risk of minor harm, injury or illnesses due to physical attacks by others (i.e., violent/aggressive neighbour), exposure to infectious diseases and other potentially dangerous situations.
- May be required to move/lift up to 30 pounds.
- 35 hours/week
- Sunday to Thursday – June 8, 2026 - August 28, 2026
- Includes working from different locations and attending an overnight camp
- Schedule will vary depending on program delivery needs.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least one year of post-secondary education (an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable).
- Related studies or equivalent work experience with youth.
- Full License and Clean Drivers Abstract is an asset.
- First Aid/CPR Certificate is an asset.
- Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset.
- Clear and current Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening required.
- Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
Alternative combination of education and Experience may be considered. - Willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities.
Skills and Capabilities:
- Passionate for building loving relationships with youth and children inspired by the positive values of the Bible, The Salvation Army (Hope, Service, Dignity*,* and Stewardship), and Boundless Vancouver (relationships and transformation).
- A demonstration of openness to and respect for spiritual disciplines and participation in community faith practices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work cooperatively and effectively with others to plan, execute, and lead younger team members and participants.
- A desire to be creative and innovative showing initiative with limited supervision.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Good team player.
- Digital skills are an asset.
- Teaching skills in subjects for children is an asset.
- Maintain and promote a positive image of The Salvation Army by providing a high caliber of services and dealing with others in a courteous and professional manner.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility.
- Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $17.85 to $21.03 with a maximum of $25.23.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
