New Afton
Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.
Kamloops is a city of 105,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.
About The Role
Schedule: 5x2, Monday - Friday (8h) or 4x3, Monday - Thursday (10h)
Position Reports To: Lead Electrical and Energy EIT
Position Overview: We currently have an exciting opportunity for a student to join the New Afton team for an 8-month or 12-month work term commencing in September 2026. This position will provide support to our Maintenance Electrical and Instrumentation Team.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in providing technical aid to field operations and personnel. Support the Electrical Team and contractors with data collection and limited field work. Participate in maintaining document control standards. Update electrical drawings and arc flash models. Contribute to technical operations such as electrical audits, reviews, and arc flash studies Support with on site power systems maintenance as required.
Qualifications
Enrolled in a 3rd or 4th year University engineering program in electrical engineering. Excellent technical, computer and inter-personal skills. Experience using ladder logic and logic gates. Familiarity with AutoCAD, ETAP, PSSE, or other modeling software. Experience in power systems considered an asset. Competency with multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical instrumentation considered an asset. Applicants must have access to personal transportation.
Other Requirements
Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:
Successful completion of pre-placement functional screen Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements
Compensation
The anticipated salary for this position is between $52,000 to $64,480. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area.
