About the Role:
- A leading energy‑sector organization specializing in crude oil and natural gas transportation and gathering is seeking an experienced Cost Control Analyst. This role provides comprehensive Total Cost Control support to Project Managers and project teams—including engineering, procurement, construction, project management, contingency, escalation, and support groups. The analyst will work closely with schedule control counterparts to ensure integrated project controls and successful project delivery.
- This position reports to the Supervisor, Project Controls – Core Programs, supporting maintenance projects typically lasting 1–2 years with budgets ranging from $300K to $10MM. The role requires the ability to manage deliverables for 15+ concurrent projects, work effectively in an office environment, and travel occasionally to company offices or project sites.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the Project Manager, project team and project cost controls staff on how cost should be planned, tracked, measured, forecasted, and reported during project execution and/or development. Monthly review of cost/cash flow forecasts with the Project Manager and extended project team to generate regular reporting requirements.
- Provide timely, accurate and relevant guidance, governance, and support to projects on approved cost controls standards to manage Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) components including External Engineering services, Procurement of Material/Equipment, Construction services, internal cost, Allowance for Funds Used During Construction (AFUDC), Contingency, Escalation, etc.
- Maintain cost and schedule planning, tracking, and reporting tools.
- Possess a solid understanding and application of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and methodology to identify, analyze and report cost risks in a timely fashion.
- Manage continuous and collaborative communication with Project Managers and project cost controls teams to address project cost related needs.
- Monitor project reporting and identify deviations from standard reports. Assist project cost controls teams with timely and accurate data gathering and delivery issues.
- Participate and resolve any issues in execution of joint Cost, Schedule, and Risk Health Checks to verify effective planning and implementation of cost processes.
- Take interest and actively participate in project meetings with vendors to understand and become familiar with changes in project status, to provide analysis of budget issues.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Minimum 10 years of experience in cost management and project controls across multiple projects.
- Proficiency in Oracle, EcoSys, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand detailed workflows across engineering, procurement, and construction.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly present complex information.
- Ability to manage a heavy workload, prioritize effectively, and deliver well‑developed recommendations.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaborate with teams across multiple locations.
Preferred:
- Experience in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical, Industrial, or Power industries.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Professional certifications such as AACE CCC/CCE or PMP.
- Familiarity with Power BI, OneDrive, and SharePoint for reporting and document management.
- Experience improving or enhancing project cost control tools and systems.
