Responsibilities
The City of North Vancouver Planning, Development and Real Estate Department is looking for a Temporary Full Time Building Inspector to join their team for 2 years. In this position, you will perform inspectional, regulatory and enforcement work related to building construction. Specifically, you will conduct detailed inspections of all building classification types under construction, repair or alteration to ensure compliance with City bylaws and the BC Building Code. Fieldwork will involve inspecting construction to ensure that the design, materials, workmanship and safety features meet or exceed standards and conform to approved plans and specifications. You will review construction, alteration and repair matters with contractors, property owners and other interested parties; interpret applicable bylaw requirements; advise architects, engineers, owners, contractors and tradespersons of construction changes or corrections required and check that deficiencies are corrected. You will also prepare reports on inspections and issue inspection notices when required standards have been satisfied. You will perform plan checking tasks when required. Performs related duties as required.
Requirements
Along with possessing a post-secondary diploma in Building Technology or equivalent, you will be BOABC Level III “Qualified” for Building Officials, or enrolled in the Building Official-in-Training Program (BOIT) and on target to be Level III “Qualified” within a required timeline. Ideally you have thorough knowledge of inspection, regulatory and enforcement work related to building construction and current trade practices with considerable related work experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. A class 5 BC Driver’s License and as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of mobile computers (iPad) will be required. Prior experience in a municipal inspector’s role with experience in permitting software would be considered an asset.
You will be required to provide your own transportation in return for reimbursement according to the Vehicle Policy.
Compensation
$46.07 – $54.44 per hour + benefits
(Pay Grade 26 – 2024 rates)
Hours of Work
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately every 3-week scheduling cycle
