Description Located out of our Calgary office, the individual in the Analyst, Tax role will report to the Manager, Domestic Taxation. The successful candidate will be responsible for Canadian corporate tax compliance, tax provisions, tax forecasting and other tax related responsibilities within Inter Pipeline.

Key Activities And Responsibilities

  • Ensure Inter Pipeline’s compliance with the Canadian Income Tax Act by following the appropriate procedures and practices. This includes, but is not limited to, the preparation of Federal and provincial tax returns for Inter Pipeline and all its subsidiaries.
  • Develop processes and efficiencies for the Tax Provision and Compliance process including other tax forecasting work.
  • Prepare Canadian tax provisions for external financial statement purposes
  • Prepare required documentation for Canadian tax provisions for compliance with SOX, internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Prepare monthly tax instalment remittances
  • Assist with ongoing income tax audits with Canadian tax authorities
  • Liaise with external auditors and tax advisers
  • Complete tax research as a component of tax provisions and compliance; tax research as a component of corporate reorganizations and tax planning matters
  • Maintain the tax inputs and calculations for the budget and monthly forecast models.
  • Maintain up to date records regarding Inter Pipeline’s adjusted cost base of its investments
  • Work with a focus to analyze financial results for tax related reasonability, recommend efficiencies, and provide tax advice
  • Provide support to the financial reporting, treasury, legal, and other stakeholder groups for any tax issues that may arise.
  • Thinking analytically to evaluate complex business and tax issues

Education, Skills And Experience

  • CPA designation required
  • Completion or enrollment in the CPA in depth tax program
  • 4 – 5 years of applicable experience in a tax advisory and tax compliance role
  • Strong understanding of accounting for income tax under IFRS
  • Experience in dealing with complex contracts
  • Advanced MS Office skills
  • Working knowledge of SAP/S4 Hana is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Tax Prep software is an asset
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
  • Ability to work independently to manage multiple deadlines

Hours Monday - Friday, 8 hours per day

As this position is identified as security sensitive, employment of a final candidate will be conditional upon completion of a criminal background check assessment with satisfactory results.
