About the role

Location: Toronto, ON, CA

Are you ready to do work that actually matters, and learn fast while doing it? At Swiss Re, we're looking for curious, driven, and analytically minded individuals to join our Actuarial Development Program (ADP) — a launchpad designed to fast-track your journey to becoming a fully credentialed actuary.

About the Role

This isn't your typical entry-level role. As an Associate Actuarial Analyst in Swiss Re's Actuarial Development Program, you'll gain hands-on experience across a wide variety of actuarial disciplines — from technical modelling and valuation to client-facing work and business management. You'll rotate through meaningful assignments that challenge you, grow you, and prepare you for a long-term career in one of the most dynamic industries in the world. If you're someone who loves solving complex problems, embraces learning, and wants to make a real impact from day one, this is your opportunity.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Build and refine pricing models that help Swiss Re assess and manage life and health risk across global markets
  • Test and validate mortality table updates to ensure accuracy and integrity in our actuarial assumptions
  • Prepare and analyze mortality and lapse experience data, contributing to periodic experience studies that inform critical business decisions
  • Support quarterly valuations and earnings analysis, gaining exposure to the financial reporting cycle of a leading global reinsurer
  • Assist in maintaining reserve valuation systems, developing a deep understanding of the technical infrastructure that underpins actuarial work
  • Engage with clients, reinsurance partners, regulators, and auditors, developing communication and relationship management skills alongside your technical expertise
  • Explore less traditional actuarial work such as client management and business strategy, broadening your perspective on what actuaries can do
  • Progress through Society of Actuaries (SOA) exams with the support of Swiss Re's structured exam program, including study time and financial support

About the Team

The Actuarial Development Program (ADP) at Swiss Re is more than a job — it's a career accelerator. Rather than being placed in a single team, ADP participants rotate through a variety of actuarial roles across Client Markets, Business Management, and Products. This structure is intentionally designed to give you broad exposure to the actuarial profession, helping you discover where your strengths and passions lie while building the skills needed to become a credentialed actuary. You'll be supported by experienced actuarial mentors and a community of fellow ADP participants who are on the same journey.

About You

You're analytically sharp, endlessly curious, and excited about the idea of a career that keeps evolving. You thrive in environments where no two days look the same, and you're motivated by both intellectual challenge and real-world impact. You're comfortable working independently, but you also know how to collaborate and communicate clearly — whether that's with a fellow analyst or a client. You bring attention to detail and strong organizational skills to everything you do, and you're committed to continuous learning and professional growth.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • Actuarial exam progress — at least 1 Society of Actuaries (SOA) exam successfully passed (2 or more preferred)
  • Exposure to programming languages such as Python or R, with a willingness to develop these skills further
  • MS Excel proficiency — comfortable working with complex spreadsheets, data analysis, and financial modelling
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly the ability to explain complex concepts clearly
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a growth mindset — someone who actively seeks out learning opportunities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a calm, organized approach
  • A collaborative spirit and genuine interest in being part of a community of emerging actuarial professionals

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Familiarity with actuarial software such as ALFA, AXIS, or MoSes
  • Experience with data tools such as SAS, SQL Server, Tableau, or MSBI

The base salary hiring range for this new position is $74,000 - $110,000 CAD. The specific base salary offered for this or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
