**ABOUT GOOD CONTRACTING:**Good Contracting is a social enterprise of the Calgary Dream Centre, launched to create meaningful, paid employment pathways for individuals transitioning through recovery programs into stable, long term work. It operates as a professional general contracting company delivering reliable services to housing providers and property managers across Calgary.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Social Enterprise Manager, the Good Contracting Manager is responsible for the operational leadership of Good Contracting. This role oversees business operations, client relationships, financial tracking, and scheduling - while maintaining a strong, active presence on site, particularly as the enterprise scales. The Manager leads a team of Crew Leads and Crew Members, builds the systems and processes that enable consistent, high quality service delivery, and ensures all renovation, repair, and maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • Prepare estimates, quotes, proposals, invoices, and change orders for all active projects

  • Track job-level costs, labour, and materials; provide regular financial reporting to the Social Enterprise Manager

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, property managers, and housing providers

  • Communicate project schedules, updates, and scope changes; resolve client concerns professionally

  • Develop and maintain the master schedule, allocating crew and resources across all active sites and divisions

  • Coordinate subcontractors and specialty trades

  • Contribute directly to on-site trade work when crew capacity or business demand requires it - particularly as the enterprise builds its team

  • Lead, coach, and support Crew Leads in daily field operations

  • Oversee hiring, onboarding, and performance management for all Good Contracting staff

  • Apply a trauma-informed, recovery-aware leadership approach in partnership with CDC Program staff

  • Develop and maintain SOPs, quality checklists, safety protocols, and training programs Identify and implement continuous improvements to operational efficiency and service quality

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Extensive hands-on experience in general contracting with working knowledge across multiple trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall and landscaping.

  • Must be able to provide 3-year drivers abstract and 3 years of continuous

  • Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Building Technology, Engineering, or a related field is an asset.

  • Journeyman certification in a relevant trade (e.g., carpentry, electrical, plumbing) is an asset but not

  • Additional safety or industry certifications such as First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, Fall Protection, or leadership training are considered strong assets.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Strong working knowledge across a variety of job sites with the ability to assess scope, plan work, and deliver results in each area.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects across sites, maintaining quality, timelines, and clean, safe work areas.
  • Effective conflict resolution and people management skills, with the ability to navigate difficult conversations and de-escalate tension constructively.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision, following standardized procedures and safety best practices.
  • Effective under pressure in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to adapt quickly to changing
  • Demonstrated teamwork and communication skills, with a willingness to collaborate with other staff, departments, and volunteers.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities; able to prioritize tasks, follow instructions, and solve problems efficiently.
  • Willingness to work a full-time, on-site schedule with flexibility for occasional evenings, weekends, or on-call work in response to urgent needs.
