ACCOUNTABLE TO: HMHA Program Manager

##Brief Overview:

The Métis Nation–Saskatchewan Ministry of Health and Mental Health & Addictions (HMHA) is seeking a strong team player, committed to quality service to carry out objectives of the Department of HMHA and to provide a range of services as the Medical Transportation Assistance Representative.

The Medical Transportation Assistance Representative supports eligible MN-S citizens to access multiple HMHA programs including Medical Transportation Assistance Program (MTAP), Nicotine Replacement Therapy Program (NRT) and the Funeral and Bereavement Program. This role delivers timely, culturally safe, client-centered service; liaises with health providers, carriers, and internal teams; and ensures compliance with program policies, privacy legislation, and funding agreements.

##Key Responsibilities:

Citizen Service & Intake

  • Collaborate with Ma Faamii to provide front-line support for MTAP inquiries (phone, email, in-person), explaining eligibility, required documents, and timelines.
  • Support intake and verification (citizenship/eligibility), obtain consent, and set up files in the case management/CRM system.
  • Offer trauma-informed, culturally safe assistance tailored to the needs of Métis clients, Elders, and clients with complex barriers.

Transportation Coordination

  • Arrange or authorize travel to medically necessary, pre-approved appointments (e.g., scheduled procedures, specialist visits).
  • Coordinate ground travel (community shuttles, taxis), intercity bus/air (where eligible), and accommodations/meals as per policy.
  • Troubleshoot itinerary changes, cancellations, and urgent requests; communicate clearly with clients and vendors.

Claims & Reimbursement Processing

  • Review and validate documentation (referrals, appointment confirmations, receipts).
  • Calculate mileage, per diems, escorts, accommodations, and incidentals in line with MTAP rates and policy.
  • Prepare and process reimbursements, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and audit-readiness.

Data, Reporting & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date client records in CRM/case management and shared drives, following privacy and retention rules.
  • Produce routine metrics (volumes, turnaround times, spend by category) and support audits and quality improvement reviews.
  • Adhere to MN- S policies, funding terms, and applicable legislation (e.g., HIPA, FOIP), escalating exceptions and risks.

Collaboration & Program Improvement

  • Liaise with clinics/hospitals, transportation providers, and internal Health/Finance teams to resolve issues and optimize workflows.
  • Identify client trends and barriers; recommend service improvements, forms/template updates, and policy clarifications.
  • Support outreach and education to communities on how to access MTAP supports.
  • Other duties as assigned.

##Qualifications

  • Certificate or diploma in Office/Business Administration, Community/Health Services, Human Services, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • 1–3 years in client services, health navigation, benefits/claims processing, or administrative coordination; experience with Indigenous-serving programs is an asset.
  • Knowledge of MN–S, Métis culture and communities in Saskatchewan; ability to provide culturally safe service.

##Additional requirements:

  • A valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and/or access to reliable transportation to our downtown location would be required.
  • The successful candidate must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the vulnerable sector.
