About the role

Who We Are: Outliers Mining Solutions is a globally recognized consultancy specializing in mine operations optimization. Our team brings deep operational experience and practical expertise to help mining operations achieve measurable improvements in productivity, efficiency, and performance.

Through hands-on collaboration with site teams, we identify opportunities to strengthen operational processes, optimize systems, and embed sustainable improvements across mining operations worldwide.

We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Consultant – Underground Operations to join our team and support underground mining operations globally.

About this role: This role suits an underground mining professional who works at the intersection of engineering analysis and hands-on improvement. Alongside senior and principal consultants, you will help site teams diagnose production and system constraints, interpret data, and put workable solutions in place that lift execution and productivity.

The work is practical and spends as much time on the ground as in analysis. Rather than planning or design alone, the focus is on performance, system optimization, and close collaboration with the people running the mine. A continuous improvement mindset matters here: the drive to spot inefficiencies, test changes, and make the gains stick.

You will contribute to engagements across multiple sites, supporting improvement initiatives, technology optimization, and performance programs under the direction of the engagement lead.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational Assessment and Analysis: Support operational assessments to identify production constraints, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Analyze production and operational data to identify performance trends and improvement opportunities. Evaluate planning and scheduling processes to strengthen execution and compliance to plan.

Technology and Systems Optimization: Support the effective use and optimization of underground mining technologies, including Fleet Management Systems (FMS), dispatch systems, and operational monitoring tools. Validate system configurations and reporting structures to ensure data accuracy and operational visibility. Assist sites in aligning technology usage with operational processes and decision making.

Continuous Improvement: Apply structured continuous improvement methods to identify, prioritize, and implement operational gains. Support the deployment of operational excellence programs such as Short Interval Control (SIC) and process standardization. Track and quantify improvement results to ensure changes are sustained after implementation.

Project Delivery: Support the planning, coordination, and execution of consulting engagements and operational improvement projects. Contribute to project scheduling and deliverable management across client engagements. Work collaboratively with internal project teams and client stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.

Operational Engagement: Work directly with engineers, supervisors, dispatchers, and operations leadership to support the implementation of improvement initiatives. Support workshops, coaching sessions, and knowledge transfer activities with site teams.

Reporting and Communication: Prepare clear, data-driven reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and results. Communicate technical insights effectively to both operational teams and management stakeholders. Build strong relationships with client teams through collaboration, credibility, and practical problem solving.

Client Delivery Focus: Ensure recommendations are practical, actionable, and aligned with client production objectives. Support clients in translating analytical insights into operational improvements. Build trusted relationships with client teams through transparent communication and credible technical guidance.

Required Skills and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent operational experience in lieu of a degree may be considered. 7-12 years of experience in underground mining operations, mine engineering, or operational improvement roles. Strong understanding of underground mine planning, production processes, and operational performance management. A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify inefficiencies and drive practical, measurable change. Experience with underground mining technologies and Fleet Management Systems (FMS) is an asset. Familiarity with Short Interval Control (SIC), Lean, or other operational excellence frameworks is an asset. Project management or project delivery experience in mining operations or technical consulting environments is an asset. Additional experience with open-pit mining is an asset. Bilingual capability is an asset (English-French or English-Spanish). Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
