Your Opportunity:
The Continuing Care Psychiatric Consulting Service (CCPCS) program consists of a group of specialized nurses who are part of Continuing Care, Facility Living (FL) and Supportive Living (SL), Edmonton Zone; the successful candidate will report directly to the CCPCS Manager. The incumbent will work with other clinical teams (e.g., NP, SW), Contracted Service Providers (CSP), and the team’s consulting psychiatrists to aid with residents who have mental health issues, behavior that is disruptive to their environment, and/or have the potential for harm to self or others. The team provides support to both SL & FL sites/residents, including specialized units/programs. The CCPCS nurse is responsible for the assessment of the resident and situation, conducting mental health status exams, recommending non-pharmacological strategies, providing support to frontline teams and families, conferencing with the consulting psychiatric for pharmacological management recommendations, and evaluating the outcomes of the recommendations and plans put in place. This is an exciting position that provides the opportunity to work independently in a dynamic self- directed work environment. The CCPCS team also Builds frontline staff capacity through coaching, education, and mentorship. Supports residents and families throughout their health journey by aligning practice with resident and family centered care.
Travel to various sites within the AHS Edmonton Zone will be required.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
At minimum five years of recent health professional experience in Continuing Care and/or a geriatric Mental Health setting. Preference will be given to those with front line experience in FL & SL. Clear understanding of and experience in both pharmacological and nonpharmacological approaches to behavioral support in the geriatric population including strategies and risks. Demonstrated track record of the ability to engage and work with stakeholders to provide coaching and mentoring. Sound assessment, problem-solving, & clinical judgment are imperative to this specialized role. Excellent oral and written skills, time management skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Ability to collaborate with multiple stakeholders: Contracted Service Provider leadership and frontline teams, physicians, pharmacists, psychiatrists, other AHS and non-AHS clinical teams, Case Managers, families, and residents. Demonstrated interprofessional skills and experience in the management of geriatric residents experiencing a complex episode in their mental health. Ability to negotiate updates to and trials of resident behavior care plans.
