Your Opportunity:
Vulcan Community Health Center is offering a mentorship opportunity for newly graduated Registered Nurses. The Graduate Nurse shall work under the guidance of a mentor as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of individuals, families and/or communities within level of competency. The GN provides nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, preventing illness, injury and disability or supporting a peaceful end of life care. The GN is accountable to the public for their own practice, which is monitored and regulated (Province of Alberta Health Professions Act). The GN is responsible for ensuring that their practice meets legislative requirements, the practice standards of CARNA and the code of ethics (Canadian Nurses’ Association Code of Ethics, 2002). The GN is guided by their level of education, expertise, experience, demonstrated skill level, AHS job description and will be mentored by the clinical guide to support their employment transition and learning opportunities. These positions are supernumerary in nature until such time as the GN is determined to be ready to independently assume the full scope of RN practice or a maximum duration of 8 months. The GN will be required to apply for available vacancy positions of no less than 0.5 FTE and may work as relief once they are determined to be ready to practice independently.
Description:
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current CARNA registration (including temporary permits). BCLS-HCP certification required. Graduate with a Baccalaureate of Nursing from an approved school of nursing within the last 12 months. Not currently in a regular full-time or regular part-time position with AHS.
