About the role
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager assumes accountability for leading the De Havilland Manufacturing/MRO asset cluster. This position acts as a direct liaison between direct management of the front-line workers and the Director of Operations. The Operations Manager has primary accountability for ensuring the execution of the short-mid-term objectives for the site on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership to ensure that the business remains aligned to the specific short-mid-term business goals and objectives. Ensure goals and objectives are meeting timelines and monitored for risks, delays and issues on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
- Ensure individual employee performance is being managed, and appropriate development and training is taking place for required employees between entry level and Production Manager roles.
- Ensure defined metrics are communicated to, and understood by, the direct supervisors and the underlying operational teams.
- Ensure the direct staff and management remain compliant with all applicable regulations (including Transport Canada), standards and laws.
- Supervise the tool crib department and oversee the management of Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) equipment, ensuring proper maintenance, availability, and inventory control.
- Oversee and manage GSE departments, including procurement, maintenance, and operational readiness.
- Lead facility improvement initiatives and drive process improvement projects, enhancing operational efficiency and compliance.
- Participate in and manage special or ad-hoc projects aimed at improving maintenance operations, safety, and efficiency.
- Oversee, manage and maintain the planning, establishment, execution, and operations of specialized shops, including composite, battery, and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) shops. Ensure all shops are in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Provide recommendations to improve process(es) and performance in the operation and implement same.
- Prepare ad hoc, as necessary, and routine reporting for senior executive including; progress against plans; identification of material risks and mitigation strategies thereon; and others as requested.
- Establish and reinforce positive, respectful, transparent communications and interactions.
- Create, coordinate and improve efficient site processes, movement of goods, movement of resources, allocation of work and product, and trouble shoot conflicts arising from such processes/movement.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
- Diploma, or Bachelors’ degree in Aerospace/Aviation or related; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6+ years in progressively responsible aviation/aerospace leadership roles, preferably in an environment of constant change and evolution.
- Prior experience in assessing and optimizing manufacturing or aerostructures operations.
- Superior planning and analysis ability in complex organization managing multiple projects/products.
- Prior experience in managing both direct employees and managers.
