What You Will Do:

GFT is seeking a Operations & Maintenance Project Specialist to join our Transit & Rail Group in Toronto on a hourly/casual/on-call basis! This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.

What you’ll be challenged to do:

This individual will be expected to support operations and maintenance (O&M) projects for our subway extension projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with project teams and resources across GFT, Metrolinx, TTC, contractors and consultants to support development of project vision, requirements and ensure project goals and timelines are met.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work independently on the planning and development of O&M requirements and specifications.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Develops and achieves approval for operational concepts and ensures inclusion of concept requirements within contract specification documents from concept to final design and implementation.

  • Performs functional validation on planned business needs and stakeholder requests to ensure all relevant transit agency requirements are accounted for within project and operational plans.

  • Develops long range estimates for operation practices to be implemented and maintenance of subway extension infrastructures and equipment.

  • Develops long-term working relationships with colleagues across project

    and operational teams.

  • Interacts with resources across various project and functional teams to derive and confirm project requirements.

  • Circulates and supports acceptance of operational concepts and plans.

    We are seeking an individual possessing a strong background in operations and project management, delivery of transit services, transit planning, coordination and control, stations management and administration, transit security planning and emergency and crisis management for operational scenarios.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads internal and external client meetings.
  • Supports preparation of technical proposals and business development activities.
  • Completes functional validation of design concepts and design packages for subway extensions.
  • Performs a variety of assignments including conducting process reviews, architectural studies, drawing, rendering and design reviews to validate operational feasibility.
  • Drafts and/or coordinates review cycles for developed documentation that may include operational concept documents, process mapping, standard operational procedures, standard maintenance procedures, training plans and operational integration strategies.
  • Defines, articulates and drafts specifications of operations and maintenance requirements for various complex linear infrastructure, facilities and transportation planning projects.
  • Manages a variety of projects to integrate transportation and transit facilities, public facilities and buildings and urban design.
  • Develops and supports estimates for operations and maintenance of subway systems and facilities.
  • Works with stakeholding teams to achieve consensus and coordination for operations and maintenance objectives including Metrolinx, TTC, city agencies, supporting consultants and contractors.
  • Ensures scope compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
  • Develops and implements O&M integration plans.
  • Evaluates feasibility of stakeholder requests and coordinate development of technical decisions.
  • Works with Metrolinx resources to establish key performance indicators and targets for reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) of maintenance for subway infrastructures and equipment.
  • Supports O&M Principal Project Manager in preparation and submission of meeting minutes.

Education | Experience:

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Post-Secondary Education (or equivalent experience) in a discipline such as Business Administration, Operations Management, Strategic Planning & Development, Architecture, Urban Planning, Business Analysis or Business Process Analysis.
  • Experience in Public Transit/Transportation, Transit Coordination & Control, Service Planning, Stations & Facilities Management, Operational Training & Security.
  • Experience in operational management, strategic planning and project management experience.

What we prefer you bring:

  • Must be able to accurately understand and interpret architectural and UDLA drawings for facilities, communications systems and traditional railway train control layouts.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, statutes, standards and practices related to the following is preferred: Occupational Health and Safety Act, Ministry of Transportation, Ministry of the Environment, Conservation & Parks (MECP) and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA))
  • Knowledge and application of ProjectWise, MS Project, MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Outlook, MS SharePoint, MS Visio.
  • Ability to deliver complex or multi-streamed projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent prioritization and risk management capabilities.

Compensation:

The salary range for this role is $41.20 - $60.96 per hour. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
