About the Core Program
You will be part of the program that is the first stop for most families who come to CASA Mental Health. CASA’s Core program serves children ages three to 17 and provides short-term, goal-directed mental health treatment for a wide range of concerns. From Core, children, youth and families are able to step up or down into more appropriate levels of service if needed.

Wage range: $43.94 to $57.21 per hour
Vacation: Nine days per year
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day, three days per week

About the Role
The Speech-Language Pathologist provides services within the Core team, supporting children, youth and families. Through assessment and consultation, the Speech-Language Pathologist works collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to enhance access to services, ensure seamless transitions, and improve outcomes for children and youth within an integrated model of care.

The Speech-Language Pathologist will:

  • Complete screening, informal/standardized assessment, consultation, recommendations/advice, and education in the areas of speech, language, communication and related disorders.

  • Interpret test results in conjunction with other related medical, behavioural and educational information to identify speech and related disorders.

  • Provide information and recommendations to assist in understanding the clinical condition, ongoing care and management.

  • Determine appropriate functional and/or diagnostic instruments to use with each patient.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in group facilitation, including patient intervention groups and parent education groups.

  • Accurately document findings in the electronic health record.

  • Act as a resource and provide supportive training to team members to assist in their professional development.

  • Participate in the development of children’s mental health teaching and resource materials.

  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members on treatment plans, case consultation, evaluation measures and program development.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Active registration with the Alberta College of Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA) is required.

  • A minimum of three years of pediatric experience.

  • Mental health experience is an asset.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based speech-language pathology assessment and intervention practices for children and adolescents.

  • Experience working with children and youth with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties in community-based, school-based and/or day program settings.

  • Proficiency in assessment administration, treatment planning and recommendations, goal writing, report writing and group facilitation.

  • Knowledge of specialized therapeutic techniques and interventions relevant to child and adolescent care is advantageous.

Conditions of Employment

  • A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Intervention Check. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.

  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
