Purpose of your Position - Non Union
Classification Summary - Union
We are looking for a Compost Coordinator for a 1 year term, to organize and supervise staff, coordinate the daily operations and maintenance at the City’s Regional Biosolids Composting Facility in Vernon. You will be responsible to review, research and provide technical advice to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policy. You will also educate customers and respond to enquiries and complaints.
The successful candidate will have completed a Diploma in Environmental Sciences or related discipline and have sound knowledge of Organic Matter Recycling and regulatory requirements applicable in the Province of British Columbia and Canada. You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Duties - Union

Working with the Supervisor, plans, organizes and coordinates the work of staff and contractors involved in the operation and maintenance of compost infrastructure to ensure work is carried out and completed to expected standards and specifications.

Provides leadership, training, guidance and support to staff, and performs all the core duties of the Environmental Technician II classification.

Establishes, maintains and analyzes performance data on various environmental initiatives (i.e. organics composting, recycling, air quality, etc.).

Troubleshoots process, instrumentation and equipment issues using required software programs.
-
Provides technical expertise and guidance in interpreting environmental policies and legislation and coordinates City’s response on land use issues.

Reviews a variety of plans and permits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and policy. Prepares reports on findings and recommendations.

Negotiates the protection of environmentally sensitive areas.
-
Develops and maintains environmental monitoring programs.
-
Creates and documents operating and safety procedures and monitoring systems.
-
Provides product information and education to customers and responds to enquiries/complaints.

Liaises with external agencies, development professionals, contractors, customers and other City staff.

Creates, inputs, updates and maintains a variety of manual and electronic records, manuals, files and statistics.

Conducts site inspections.

Pay Rate
