About the Opportunity
The Nooaitch Indian Band is seeking a full-time Social Development Coordinator & Family Advocate based in Merritt, BC.
In this pivotal role, you will report to the Community Wellness Manager and lead the planning, development, and delivery of the Band’s Social Development program while serving as the Designated Band Representative for child and family matters. You will collaborate with Chief & Council, Band staff, and community members to identify needs, implement supports, and advocate for culturally relevant education and wellness services.
More specifically, your responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Developing, coordinating, and administering social development programs for the community
- Consulting with Band Administration, Chief & Council, and community members to identify social, health, and family needs
- Coordinating group and individual meetings to understand and respond to member needs
- Supervising, coaching, and evaluating staff in the Social Development department
- Preparing funding proposals, reports, and applications for ISC and other agencies
- Developing and managing the annual operating budget in collaboration with the Finance Coordinator and Community Wellness Manager
- Liaising with community health and family service organizations to ensure members receive appropriate support
- Supporting students with funding applications, academic guidance, and access to education resources
- Delivering culturally relevant education programs in collaboration with schools and educators
- Advocating for children, youth, and families in child welfare processes as the Band’s Designated Representative
- Supporting prevention-based programs to strengthen families and promote community wellness
- Ensuring all services are provided in a culturally safe, respectful, and confidential manner
About You
To qualify, you will need a bachelor’s degree in social work, education, social sciences, or a related field , or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 1-2 years of supervisory and program management experience in social services, education, or family advocacy will also be essential. A driver's license and reliable vehicle is required.
Additionally, the following skills and background will be highly valued:
- Previous experience working with First Nations communities
- Knowledge of ISC program guide and policies for social assistance programs
- Strong communication, advocacy, and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic administration systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and secure record-keeping systems
- Willingness to undergo a criminal record and vulnerable sector check
