About the role

Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Senior Financial Consultant is a seasoned professional responsible for delivering comprehensive financial advice and customized financial solutions to members with complex and evolving needs. This role focuses on building deep, long-term relationships by providing sophisticated solutions across retirement planning, investment strategy, and advanced credit structuring.

As a senior member of the Consultant team, the Senior Financial Consultant acts as a partner to internal financial planners, navigating life-stage transitions, and intergenerational investment planning. With a strong understanding of financial regulations, risk management, and member-centric strategies, this role plays a critical part in helping members make informed decisions that align with their goals.

The Senior Financial Consultant also plays a leadership role within the branch, contributing to a culture of excellence, supporting other consultants, and collaborating cross-functionally to deliver seamless, end-to-end financial solutions.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Deliver holistic financial planning by conducting thorough financial reviews, developing tailored strategies, and guiding members through complex planning scenarios such as retirement income planning, estate considerations, and intergenerational wealth transfer.

  • Advise on a broad range of investment solutions, including registered and non-registered products, leveraging financial planning tools and collaborating with and/or referring to Wealth Management partners for portfolio construction, risk assessment, and tax-efficient investment strategies.

  • Proficient in structuring and managing complex credit solutions, advising on a wide range of credit solutions and products

  • Lead the member relationship through key life events, offering proactive guidance and coordinating with internal and external professionals, collaborating across departments to deliver seamless member experiences.

  • Champion member advocacy by ensuring every solution is tailored to the member’s best interest and proactively identifying opportunities for deeper engagement and long-term planning.

  • Act as a senior resource within the advisory team, mentoring junior advisors, providing support and sharing knowledge to elevate overall team capability.

  • Stay current on regulatory, market, and product knowledge, maintaining required licensing and contributing to the branch’s professional standards of advice and conduct.

  • Provide timely, accurate responses to member inquiries and requests, maintaining a high standard of service and operational excellence.

  • Achieve personal and referral targets, as well as working in collaboration to successfully achieve overall branch targets.

  • Nurtures and grows established relationships with centers of influence in the community

  • Maintain professional confidentiality and privacy at all times.

  • Act as an ambassador of ACU by being visible in the community in support of corporate and community initiatives.

  • Stay informed on financial industry trends, competitor offerings, regulatory changes, and internal processes to ensure the delivery of relevant, high-quality advice and service.

  • Responsible for compliance and risk management, through the execution of internal policies and procedures, maintain ongoing compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements at all times.

  • Ensure that all programs, policies and process are implemented in a manner that supports ACU’s commitment to rural and agricultural communities, francophone services, values-based banking, respectful workplace and diversity, equity and inclusion.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and experience

The competencies for this position would require a minimum grade twelve diploma, plus five to seven years job related experience in the financial industry or an equivalent combination of education and experience**.** Certificate in Financial Services Advice (CFSA) or equivalent is an asset.

Key Occupational Skills:

  • 3-5 years of experience providing advice on financial products (consumer and small business loans, line of credit, mortgages, deposit and investment products

  • Demonstrated experience working with complex financial solutions and mortgage applications. Previous credit adjudication experience is an asset.

  • Recognized as a trusted consultant capable of earning long-term loyalty through thoughtful needs analysis, consistent follow-up, and proactive financial advice.

  • Skilled in cultivating member loyalty and lifetime value through high-touch engagement strategies and integrated financial planning conversations.

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and presentation skills with the ability and passion to engage with others authentically, establish trust, and build long-lasting relationships

  • Strategic thinker with the demonstrated ability to understand and analyze member needs, develop and recommend complex multi-product financial solutions to support member’s financial success

  • Experience and comfort with a fast-paced, complex work environment, and the ability to manage multiple and shifting priorities simultaneously, with an orientation toward delivering results.

  • Self-starter with ability to work independently & in a team environment

  • Previous work experience in a financial institution is required

  • Expert knowledge of Credit Union products and services is an asset

  • Expert knowledge of Credit Union policies, procedures and operations is an asset

This role will be a full time position. You will work 37.5 hours per week Monday-Saturday (Alternate Saturdays).
