Job Description:
Position Purpose summary:
The purpose of the expectation task list is to identify and clarify what management expects from the incumbent.The following expectations and tasks will be part of the annual performance appraisals, your merit increase will be based on the level of performance in each of the following areas.
Expectations may change year to year and both parties should use the annual performance appraisal to determine realistic and equitable goals and outcomes for the upcoming performance year.
Accountabilities:
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES
Supervise and provide day-to-day direction to the Frontline Workers in accordance with established policies and procedures including Employment Standards and payroll procedures.
Schedule, conduct and document supervision.
Conduct Performance Reviews and Evaluations.
Attend and actively participate in Team meetings.
Provide back-up support to Frontline Staff and their functions as required.
Complete shift schedules in accordance with current policies.
Prepare and submit to the Assistant Director the Frontline Workers hours of work bi-weekly for payroll submission.
Assist with the day-to-day operation of the Hostel.
Ensure residents and community members receive proper Customer Service while relating to the staff.
Read daily the log books and make necessary follow-up.
Assist with monitoring the Service Restrictions imposed on residents.
Attend monthly Resident’s Meetings as required.
To assist the Assistant Director with the administration of the Hostel.
Gather and submit for entry to SAMIS statistics applicable to Frontline Workers on a monthly basis.
Compile and submit the monthly snapshot, service restrictions, meal count and the In Kinds Good tally to the Assistant Director monthly.
To give direction and ensure SMIS entries are completed properly.
Assist the Assistant Director in ensuring the Hostel is in compliance and meeting the standards for the Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
Attend Committee and Agency meetings as directed by the Assistant Director.
Participate in the Policy Review Committee.
Input triage data into database as required.
To assist the Assistant Director with the Human Resources of the Hostel
Ensure up to date Frontline Worker contact information is forwarded to the Assistant Director.
Monitor and maintain the Frontline Worker relief pool.
Assist with the orientation of new staff.
Assist with the interview process when requested.
Monitor and notify Assistant Director of staff training needs (i.e. Renewals, etc.) in accordance to Hostel policy.
Keep an updated record of all sick days, vacations days, lieu and stat days taken by each staff.
Assist with staff training in accordance with Hostel policy as requested.
To assist the Assistant Director to ensure that all Health and Safety requirements specific to the Hostel are in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
To perform workplace inspections.
To conduct information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings).
To assist with incident investigations.
To assist with employee health and safety training.
To assist, make recommendations and/or correct substandard acts or conditions.
To assist in commending employee health and safety performance.
To perform employee safety observations.
To ensure compliance with specific Hostel requirements within sections 25 & 26 of the OHSA.
Organizational Responsibilities
Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values and philosophy of The Salvation Army.
Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and in-service training.
Engage in formal supervision and performance evaluations.
Read and follow the policy and procedures manual, the Employee Handbook and the Toronto Shelter Standards, and understand that the Front Line Supervisor’s position will be required to adhere to all these guidelines in dealing with clients, staff, community members and the public.
Become familiar with the job descriptions and task lists for each position that reports to the Front Line Supervisor.
Make suggestions to the Management team that will improve efficiency, working conditions and/or procedures.
Represent the Organization in a professional manner

Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
- Social Services Worker Diploma or minimum of 5 years in a work related field including experience in a residential setting
- Certification in First Aid/CPR, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention
- Criminal Record Check clearance for the Vulnerable Sector
Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
- 1 -2 years Supervisory Experience
- Thorough knowledge of Toronto Hostel Standards
- Good interpersonal skills
- Fluent in written and spoken English
- Second language an asset
- Computer Skills
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $55,693.49 to $69,616.86 with a maximum of $83,540.23.
Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
