Located at Exhibition Place is the award-winning Enercare Centre, Canada’s largest exhibition and convention centre which is now LEED Platinum certified, and Beanfield Centre conference venue which is LEED Silver certified. Since 2004, Exhibition Place has undertaken an environmental stewardship initiative, entitled GREENSmart; which includes the promotion of sustainable development, environmental initiatives and leading edge green technologies and practices across the site. Our environmental initiatives have resulted in award winning recognition across North America, such as the Platinum Waste Minimization Award from the Recycling Council of Canada and have established Exhibition Place as a world leader in energy-efficient technologies.

This is a Term Contract with a duration of 5 to 12 months.

What can I expect to do in this role?

Oversee the Coordination of Security including the supervision of Security Guards.

  • Supervise, schedule and train all security guards including briefings, work assignments, oversight and daily operational support.

  • Coordinate daily instruction and security plans appropriate to grounds wide activities.

  • Lead for individual event portfolios in client meetings and liaise with other divisions to provide information on security including site security requirements, road closures, site layouts, and security management plans.

  • Coordinate, plan, prepare and distribute security event information packages.

  • Oversee the inventory and distribution of facility keys & access cards for event clients and employees.

  • Coordinate of Closed-Circuit Television and Card Access Security Systems including proper operation and trouble-shooting issues.

  • Provide security advice to event clients to assist in the preparation and planning for their event.

  • Inspect all security equipment including security & life safety to verify state of good repair; and report/monitor maintenance requests for same on a monthly basis.

  • Conduct pre-event/show life safety orientation sessions with show management/clients; including fire exits, fire system functions and evacuation procedures.

  • Coordinate the Lost & Found program including storage & tracking of found items, claimed and unclaimed property.

  • In the absence of the Manager, act as initial contact with Toronto Police Services, Toronto Fire Services, and Toronto Emergency Services, and assist as required.

  • Perform Security Guard duties as required during periods of absence or staffing challenges.

  • Perform other duties as required.

How do I qualify?

  • Possess a Certificate in Law Enforcement or in another discipline pertinent to the job function or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a Certified Protection Officer and Certified Protection Professional status.
  • Progressive experience in law enforcement or security industry.
  • Experience utilizing software packages (word processing, spreadsheets and electronic mail).
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Ability to successfully pass the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer certification.
  • Must possess a valid full G Class Ontario driver’s license.
  • Ability to supervise staff in a security environment.
  • Ability to interpret collective agreement.
  • Ability to work varied shifts based on event planning requirements including but not limited to 7-12 hours in length including days, evenings, weekends and holidays, as required to support operational & planning requirements.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of security operations and emergency / evacuation procedures.
