About the Opportunity
Nova Scotia Health and the Department of Family Practice is seeking a certified Physician Assistant (PA) to join the Primary Health Care Portfolio. Family Practices are involved in the provision of clinical care to patients and their families, engage in quality and safety processes, and participate in trainee education and academic activities. Guided by a series of medical directives, the successful applicant will provide clinical services under the supervision of an assigned Family Physician. This position will offer the PA an opportunity to work to their full scope of practice.
As a member of the team, the Physician Assistant will report to the Primary Supervising Family Physician and functions within a dynamic collaborative care team. Reporting to the local manager and under the supervision of a family physician, the PA will provide comprehensive, continuous and coordinated primary care to patients across the lifespan. Physician Assistant Responsibilities
- Obtain health history as appropriate, including patient demographics
- Conduct comprehensive and focused physical assessments and interpret findings
- Utilize primary and secondary assessment results to formulate a differential diagnosis and determine if further clinical investigation is required
- Order preliminary diagnostic testing and follow‑up; with interpretation of results
- Formulate a treatment and management plan based on assessment and investigation results, availability of services and special needs of patient
- Implement effective treatment plans that include preventive and therapeutic interventions, demonstrating appropriate procedural skills, as determined by the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants Scope of Practice and National Competency Profile, and the supervising physician
- Collaborate with and seek appropriate consultation from the supervising physician and other health professionals involved in the patient’s care

Compensation
- $46.36 - $61.60 hourly ($90,402 - $120,120 annually)
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
- Graduate of or currently enrolled in an accredited recognized Physician Assistant program in Canada or the United States
- Certification through the Physician Assistant’s Certification Council (PACC) or National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- Eligible for license with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia
- Membership with the Canadian Association of Physician Assistants (CAPA)
- Medical Liability Insurance Required
- BLSC Certification
- Must have recent clinical experience in family medicine in the workplace or as part of clinical training
- Demonstrated effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, patient assessment and telecommunication skills
- Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
