Job Summary:

Reporting to the Design Formation Department Chair, the Instructional Assistant, Digital Media & Design Instructional Assistant works in Creative Arts Division and provides instructional and technical support during classes and workshops and performs other related duties. The Instructional Assistant is well-versed in emerging trends in digital media, design thinking and is an expert in digital design and user interface.

Job Description:

C. Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists students during class and lab time with software, hardware, and design in digital media, visual storytelling, coding, and web publishing (e.g., Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, XD, Figma, CMS platforms, text editors, compilers)
  • Provides students support during lab hours
  • Monitors peripheral devices (e.g., printers, scanners, projectors, cameras); reports issues to Helpdesk if needed
  • Demonstrates new equipment and software to students and faculty
  • Researches new equipment/software for compatibility with lab systems; advises the Design Formation department chair
  • Participates in department meetings and forums; provides reports on lab status and developments
  • Consults with instructors, department heads, Division Chairs, vendors, and campus support departments where needed
  • Performs other related duties as required

D. Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a design-related field such as Digital Media, UX/UI Design, Graphic Design, Web Design, or related disciplines
  • 2 years of relevant industry experience
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, Sketch, and other relevant software
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in visual storytelling, user interface design, and digital content creation
  • Knowledge of design principles, user-centered design, and accessibility best practices
  • Familiarity with HTML/CSS/JavaScript and CMS platforms
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience supporting instruction in post-secondary or training environments is an asset

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to work with diverse student populations in both in-person and online settings
  • Ability to instruct and demonstrate the use of equipment and software to students
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to manage instructional support materials and assist with department duties
  • Familiarity with front-end web technologies including HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS) used in design workflows
  • Ability to support students in integrating coding into design projects
  • Understanding of how design and development intersect in digital media production

Please note this is a 12-month temporary - part-time position as follows:
Spring Term 2026: 14 hours weekly

Summer Term 2026: 14 hours weekly
Fall Term 2026: 28 hours weekly
