About Mount Milligan Mine Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About The Opportunity We have an exciting opportunity for an Water Resource Engineer to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.
This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.
Reporting to the Manager, Engineering & Infrastructure, the Water Resources Engineer is responsible for leading the development of the Site Integrated Water Management Plan and Water Balances for Mount Milligan Mine while ensuring alignment with Operations and Centerra Water Governance Framework. In addition, this role will be responsible for leading Mount Milligan’s activities, including, surface water and groundwater hydrology, and operational water management related to Tailings Construction sequencing and open pit operations.
Your Responsibilities Will Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Lead a multi-disciplinary team to develop an Integrated Site Water Management Plan that is consistent with business, regulatory, and Centerra water governance requirements
- Maintain and implement operational and long-term Water Balance Models through Goldsim, excel and other software programs to provide water sourcing requirements and to inform key decision makers with critical water balance information to plan annual Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) construction planning
- Implement and champion the development of a Water Steering Committee including involvement from all departmental stakeholders
- Provide senior level technical review of permitting applications and regulatory submissions including stakeholder engagement and maintaining relationships with government agencies, indigenous groups, and other local communities of interest
- Inform surface water, groundwater, and hydrology monitoring programs including working with the Environmental Coordinator using Aquarius in the development and maintenance of stream rating curves used for establishing compliant daily water taking volumes as governed by the Site-Wide Water Adaptive Management Monitoring Plan (SWAMMP)
- Develop a site based, proactive process, for water management as part of mine planning to deliver efficiencies in mine development, operations, and regulatory authorizations
- Proactively manage risks from project findings and risks associated with regional water quality modelling and site operations
- Ensure regulatory commitments relating to Water Management Plans and Water Management Facilities are met
- Prepare and submit all necessary data and reports to meet regulatory and other commitments, including presentation of technical information to a variety of audiences
- Identify opportunities for water efficiency through integrating water costs into project development and operations
- Identify operational water supply needs, supply risk, and develop feasible mitigation based on defined permitted mine life water needs
- Identify and control stability and hydraulic risk associated with water management facilities
- Collaborate with the Engineering, Operations, Processing, Permitting and other Business Unit teams to inform water management decisions
- Identify water management issues and undertake analysis to support responsible decision making
- Performs any other responsibilities related to the Water Resources Engineer role as required or as assigned by the department head
About You The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
- Engineering or Science Degree in environment, geochemistry, hydrology, hydrogeology, or related field with a post-graduate qualification preferred
- Minimum of five years hydrology (surface water) experience, preferably in the mining industry
- Experience leading development and implementation of water management plans and programs (eg. Goldsim), and risk evaluation of water quality and quantity
- Technical knowledge of federal and provincial mining water practices and regulations is required
- Minimum five to ten years demonstrated experience in roles of progressively increasing responsibility in project management and delivery
- Excellent project management experience, that includes management of technical direction of multiple environmental projects and budgets in excess of 5 million
- Professional designation and meet the BC provincial requirements of a qualified professional in a water-related field is an asset
- Proficient in environmental analysis and reporting
- Required to meet pre-employment testing requirements
Working Conditions
- Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7x7, 12 hours per day
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
- Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie
