Grande Yellowhead Public School Division has an exciting career opportunity with our Human Resources team for a Full-Time, Human Resources Specialist. Position: Full-Time, Human Resources Specialist
Location : Educational Services Centre, Edson, Alberta
Start Date : As soon as mutually agreed upon
Hours of Work : 1.0 FTE Monday-Friday
Work Schedule: 7.5 hours per day, Monday to Friday.
The competition will remain open until: November 27, 2025 at 12:00pm MST.
Reports to: The Human Resources Specialist will report directly to the Director of Human Resources
Summary: The Human Resources Specialist plays a key role in ensuring smooth and compliant HR operations across the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to benefits administration and payroll function. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who values integrity, organization, and confidentiality, while thriving in a role that supports both employees and organizational success.
Role And Responsibilities
- Adheres to human resources processes and practices by maintaining up-to-date knowledge and understanding of legislation, collective agreements, and terms and conditions of employment.
- Assists the Director of Human Resources with preparation for collective bargaining, addressing Union grievances, and liaising with the Union representatives.
- Respects and adheres to the confidentiality of the role. Adheres to all Access to Information Act (ATIA) and Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) requirements as laid out in the province of Alberta.
- Responsible for full-cycle recruitment and onboarding process including developing job description, job posting, screening resumes, shortlisting suitable candidates, conducting phone-interviews, coordinating in-person interviews, conducting reference checks, providing job offers & employment contracts, etc.
- Serves as a liaison between management and non-certificated staff, interpreting CUPE and ATA agreements and helping resolve workplace issues.
- Ensures the application of Board Policies and Administrative Procedures as required in the performance of duties.
- Supports payroll functions, including processing employee payments, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with relevant policies and regulations.
- Manage and maintain the HR/Payroll Service Desk, ensuring efficient operations and excellent customer service.
- Performs other duties and obligations as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.
Requirements
- A minimum of a post-secondary certificate/diploma in human resources, or business administration is required.
- 1-5 years of experience as a Human Resources Generalist/Specialist or Assistant
- CPHR, RPR and/or PCP designation will be considered an asset.
- Human Resource Information System (HRIS) &/or Atrieve experience an asset.
- Previous experience in an education setting is an asset.
- This role requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills, strong data entry abilities with high attention to detail, and the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and trust.
