Pontem Group is seeking an On-Site Junior Fire Protection & Building Code Consultant to support our growing portfolio of building code and fire protection projects. This role is well-suited for an early-career engineer who is eager to gain hands-on experience in site inspections, building code compliance, fire protection system coordination, and permit submissions. The successful candidate will work closely with senior consultants while gradually developing the ability to manage smaller projects independently. This position involves frequent site visits and direct coordination with project teams, clients, and municipal authorities. We are looking for someone with a positive attitude, strong attention to detail, and a genuine interest in fire protection and life-safety design.

General Responsibilities include, but are not limited to
- Conduct on-site field reviews of construction projects to verify compliance with applicable building codes, municipal regulations, and permit conditions
- Review architectural and engineering drawings with a focus on fire and life safety requirements
- Assist in preparing building code compliance reports and technical documentations
- Support fire protection system design and coordination (e.g. fire alarm, sprinkler systems)
- Liaise with clients, consultants, contractors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs)
- Learn technical skills to excel the site review and make effective and accurate judgement under supervision.
Qualifications
- Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Applied Science (preferred but not required) (
- Eligible for registration as an EIT with EGBC (preferred)
- Experience in building construction or code consulting is an asset but not required
- Valid driver’s license (required)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in MS Word and Excel
- Familiarity with AutoCAD
- Experience with Bluebeam is an asset Recent Engineering graduates with an Indigenous background or a strong interest in working with Indigenous communities are encouraged to apply and considered as a strong asset

Salary Range: $60,000.00 To $75,000.00 Annually

Pontem Group is a newly formed company offering Certified Professional Services, Building Code Consulting and Fire Protection Solutions. Our vision is to provide comprehensive consulting services that connect project stakeholders, which include the client, project team and the authority having jurisdiction together in an efficient and effective manner so that projects can be carried out with the necessary risk mitigation. Our goal as an integral member of the project team is to assist and lead the project in the direction towards success using our knowledge and expertise of the fire and life safety aspects of the building code and by-laws while leveraging our relationship with the Authority Having Jurisdiction.
We have an extensive amount of consulting experience in a wide range of building types and sizes, which include commercial, residential, industrial and institutional facilities. We currently have four professionals on staff, three of which are Certified Professionals with extensive experience in navigating the client and project team through the building department and various departments in the City of Surrey and the City of Vancouver to obtain building permits through the Certified Professional Program.
