We are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Capital Projects team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Project Development Manager, this role will work with a team of technical and project professionals in the development and execution of complex capital projects and capital programs. While primarily focused on existing Hydro assets, projects may also include new electrical infrastructure for Transmission and Distribution as well as thermal generation and renewables in alignment with NS Power’s Project Delivery Model.

Key Elements Of This Role Include As a Senior Project Engineer you will be responsible for the following :

  • This position will be responsible for the development of projects assigned to the Capital Projects group. This includes the following activities:

  • Prepare projects scope definition.

  • Review detailed design and specifications

  • Manage project budget and estimate forecast

  • Fieldwork planning and support

  • Perform economic analysis for different design alternatives

  • You will be required to collaborate with members of the following teams to ensure the projects are developed in accordance with company guidelines and successfully and safely implemented: Hydro and Wind Operations, Energy Delivery, Enterprise Asset Management, Health Safety and Environment, and senior management.

  • You will lead activities to produce project approval filings for internal and external regulatory approval.

  • You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupation Health and Safety Rules and Regulations and ensuring projects are defined and developed with safety and environment as inherent components.

  • You will be accountable for environmental management system processes and initiatives.

These Skills Will Make You Successful To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Civil, Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • Experienced Engineering Professional with strong Analytical and Project Management skills.
  • External stakeholder management experience and 8+ years of capital development and construction related experience would be an asset.
  • P. Eng designation (or eligible for membership within 6 months) and PMP certification would be an asset.

Skills & Additional Requirements

  • Experience in Risk Management, Project Controls, PMI methodologies will be an asset.
  • You also possess strong analytical and quantitative skills, and attention to detail.
  • Previous experience with the design, construction or operation of hydropower facilities and/or transmission line facilities will be considered an asset.
  • You must possess a valid driver´s license and be available to provide assistance / direction for after hour emergency service restoration.

  • Strong communications skills with regard to external partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong and demonstrated relationship skills, and an ability to work well with at various levels of the organization, including NS Power Executive Leadership team.

We provide 95 per cent of the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in Nova Scotia, and serve over 500,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers across the province.

Our 1,700 dedicated, safety-focused employees help manage $5 billion worth of generation, transmission and distribution assets and produce more than 10,000 gigawatt hours of electricity each year.

We use a fuel mix including hydro, tidal, wind, coal, oil, biomass and natural gas to generate electricity. Our facilities can generate as much as 2,453 megawatts of electricity that is delivered across 32,000 km of transmission and distribution lines throughout Nova Scotia.
