The Calgary Recreation Strategic Services Business Strategist leads the development and implementation of strategies, policies, programs and services to advance organizational objectives. The work includes developing Council reports and business plans, defining service levels, setting risk tolerances for services/assets, setting business unit performance measures, and delivering on strategic initiatives to improve business unit financial outcomes. Primary duties include:
- Provide strategic and policy expertise, identify gaps, assess risks and mitigation strategies, conduct research, and develop strategies, policies, plans and recommendations to senior management, City council and internal and external partners.
- Provide business analysis and recommendations about the efficiency, effectiveness, and scope of business activities to advance the delivery of strategic frameworks that improve plans, project plans and work plans in consultation with staff and external partners.
- Develop business unit strategic plans, project plans, and work plans in consultation with staff and external partners.
- Prepare communication and information for a variety of audiences, such as reports on trends, impacts, financial projections, changing partner and client needs.
- Prepare reports and presentations for committees and/or council.
- Interface with City senior leaders, strategic planners, and partners on strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- A degree in Business, Management, Public Administration (for example: Economics, Commerce, Finance, Business Analytics) or a related field plus at least 8 years of related experience in policy or program development, business development/management consulting, and/or operational and strategic planning.
- Experience in developing strategies, qualitative and quantitative research and analysis, project management, change management and presentation/report writing is required.
- A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be considered an asset.
- A Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, facilitation and strategic planning skills with the ability to support complex business initiatives.
- Ability to prioritize competing priorities, facilitate innovation and collaboration, build consensus among partners and influence without authority.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

- Compensation: Pay Grade 12 $48.54 - 64.88 per hour
- Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week.
- Days of work: This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
