Community Outreach Rep 2 - Edmonds
Number of positions: 1 Job Location: Edmonds Annex - W3
Employment type: Temporary Region: Lower Mainland
Hours of work: Full-time (37.5 hrs/wk) Flexible Work Role: Resident
Annual salary: $ 52,700.00 - 57,800.00
What you'll do
- Performs some or all the duties of the COR 1 job.
- Assists the Community Outreach Representative (COR) Work Leader with event coordination by: providing on-site
leadership during an event in the absence of the Work Leader. Provides technical guidance and advice to incumbents in the
COR 1 job assigned to an event by outlining and reviewing event expectations and key educational messages for the venue
prior to their assigned shifts and by providing feedback on a task-by-task basis throughout the event.
- Identifies partnership opportunities and initiates working relationships with a variety of community stakeholders in order to
reach and educate more customers and to encourage stakeholder participation in future BC Hydro events and initiatives.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with key media/communications contacts. Drafts media-related
materials, such as social media posts and online articles. Approves communications materials such as event and campaign
posters created by incumbents in the COR 1 job to support event logistics.
- Acts as a media spokesperson and provides media coaching to a team of CORs on a regular basis. Develops region-
specific media plan and key messaging and prepares media advisories and news stories. Creates presentations and
reference materials for media, community groups, customers, internal and external stakeholders, etc. Identifies and
escalates media-related problems as they arise to media relations staff.
- Monitors, checks and/or prepares expense claims and project expenses for managerial approval; follows up to ensure
costs remain within project limits; purchases promotional and other items related to events. Arranges travel and
accommodation for self and team members.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job.
What you bring
- Certificate in Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Social Sciences or a related field of study AND one
(1) year of experience in the Community Outreach Representative 1 job or a similar role where relevant marketing and/or
customer service experience has been gained.
- Must hold a valid class five (5) driver's licence.

This is a full-time temporary role for approximately 12 months.
Duties of a Community Outreach Representative 1 (COR 1) include:
- Represents BC Hydro through attendance at in-person and virtual events held at community festivals, trade shows and
schools. Provides information and educates customers on BC Hydro's current initiatives, services and programs, including
Power Smart programs, products, customer billing, payment choices, and methods of accessing other BC Hydro personnel
and technical resources, through activities such as: engaging attendees in discussions regarding current initiatives, services
and programs; and answering queries or referring customers to other BC Hydro personnel.
- Maintains working relationships with a variety of community stakeholders through participation in community events,
fostering partnership opportunities for reaching and educating customers and encouraging participation in future BC Hydro
events and initiatives.
- Conducts research on the most effective venues and messages for BC Hydro’s initiatives and makes recommendations
accordingly. Plans a presence for each approved venue, taking into consideration the audience, messages and available
resources.
- Assembles, moves and sets up/disassembles display and other event materials
- Prepares basic and/or pre-formatted summaries, logs, charts and other program related status and other documentation.
Prepares and maintains a variety of files including statistical summaries, reports, reference documents, budgets and other
information related to the team’s initiatives.
- Provides assistance to the rest of Customer Service, Energy Management Solutions Communications and Community
Relations staff in their marketing efforts, programs and initiatives as required.
- Provides clerical, administrative office and event coordination support to COR team as required such as monitoring and
tracking event inventory and office supplies, maintaining files for events and other documentation and responds to inquiries
or forwards to other staff.

- This position will be posted concurrently.
- This position is covered under MOU #74 of the Collective Agreement between MoveUP, Local 378 and BC Hydro.
- The position also includes planning and filming social media content for BC Hydro’s social channels.
- Please note that frequent travel around B.C. is required as part of this role. Also, the normal schedule is Wednesday
through Sunday with shifts varying between morning and evening hours.
- A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain the following requirements in good standing: Driver's License
Type = Class 5
