Job Summary
The Centre for Learning and Teaching (CLT) works in partnership with academic units, faculty members, and graduate students to enhance the practice and scholarship of learning and teaching at Dalhousie University through an evidence-based approach to enhance the Dalhousie learning environment. Reporting to the Director, Centre for Learning and Teaching, the Educational Developer (Student Accessibility and Accommodations) will co-create impactful, accessible learning experiences, catering to the opportunities and challenges experienced by those who teach and support teaching, with particular emphasis on facilitating student accommodation requirements and the proactive creation of accessible learning environments.
Key Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Student Accessibility Centre (SAC), attending regular meetings and working in close partnership to provide all who teach and support teaching with integrated, coherent support. Act as a bridge between SAC and CLT to help ensure accessibility is a lived value and evident practice in CLT’s work.

As allocated by the Director, facilitate one-on-one and group consultations on teaching and learning theory and technique with a focus on student accommodations and accessibility.

In collaboration with the team, and coordinated by the Director, co-create a program of professional development for Instructors of Record, working across all modalities. This may include the design, facilitation and review of workshops, seminars, labs, retreats, and sustained learning experiences relating to student accommodation and accessibility.

Co-create a supportive, inclusive and accountable professional culture through active engagement and collaboration in individual interactions, meetings and written communication. Initiate and cultivate excellent, productive working relationships with those who teach and support teaching.

Maintain a comprehensive grasp of contemporary and emerging literature relating to learner-centred pedagogical practices, including but not limited to the portfolio of student accommodation and accessibility.
Note
The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications

Master’s degree in a relevant field plus approximately three to five years’ experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Proven experience in student accommodations; accessible learning environments; teaching in a higher education setting; and instructional design and/or educational development.

Excellent collaboration, interpersonal, and communication (verbal, written and presentation) skills.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
-
Proven commitment to relevant ongoing professional development and learning.
Assets

Doctoral degree in a relevant field.

Demonstrated command of relevant literature and dissemination practices related to educational development and teaching and learning in higher education and/or engagement in relevant scholarship (e.g. through publications and presentations).

Lived experience relevant to accommodations and accessibility.
