About the role

About the Role:

The Controller will serve as the key financial leader responsible for overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting within the organization. This role involves managing the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies. The Controller will collaborate closely with senior management to provide strategic financial insights that support business growth and operational efficiency. Additionally, the Controller will lead and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and accountability. Ultimately, this position is critical in safeguarding the company’s financial health and enabling informed decision-making through timely and accurate financial information.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Professional accounting designation such as CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) recognized in Canada.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a Controller role or senior financial management position.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) and budgeting processes.
  • Knowledge of tax regulations and experience managing tax compliance.
  • Advanced Excel skills including data analysis and financial modeling.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee daily accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
  • Manage Employee Benefit Program.
  • Manage HR Department.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the accounting team to enhance their professional development and performance.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits and ensure timely filing of tax returns and other statutory reports.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
  • Support strategic initiatives by providing financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.

The Controller will utilize strong analytical and organizational skills daily to manage complex financial data and ensure accuracy in reporting. Effective communication skills are essential for collaborating with cross-functional teams and presenting financial insights to senior management. Leadership skills will be applied to guide and develop the accounting team, fostering a productive and compliant work environment. Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems will streamline financial processes and improve data integrity. Additionally, problem-solving skills will be critical in identifying financial risks and implementing controls to mitigate them.
