The challenges that await you
Under the authority of your immediate supervisor, you are responsible for microbiological analyses and provincial accreditation in microbiology for the City of Laval's expertise laboratory.
You plan, organize, coordinate, and monitor the activities of employees working in the field of microbiological analysis or related support activities. You certify that the regulatory analytical work performed by the microbiology laboratory complies with standards (ISO 17025). You ensure the execution of quality control analyses and the issuance of reports.
More specifically:
- You issue notices of non-compliance and trigger the emergency process in the presence of undesirable microorganisms in drinking water, notifying the City of Laval, the Public Health Department, and the MDDELCC;
- You act as a Biological Safety Officer (BSO) with the federal government to ensure the monitoring of biosafety and biosecurity practices, including the overall management of the biosafety program;
- You draft and prepare budget estimates as well as tender documents related to laboratory activities;
- You use and handle laboratory instruments and products.
The ideal profile for us
- Hold a bachelor's degree in microbiology or biological sciences with a microbiology option or any other relevant bachelor's degree for the position;
- Have four (4) years of relevant experience, including at least one year in environmental microbiology laboratory work;
- Knowledge of drinking water distribution or treatment is an asset;
- Hold a valid class 5 driver's license;
- Be a member of the Association of Microbiologists of Quebec;
- Be available for calls outside of regular working hours in case of emergency.
