Fitness Manager – Full-time

The Arbutus Club has been a landmark in Vancouver since 1964. Today, we are a modern recreation complex with first-class food, beverage, retail, and recreational services. We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Fitness Manager to lead the operations of our Fitness Centre and Personal Training programs. This role combines leadership, administration, and member engagement to deliver a professional, innovative, and results-driven fitness experience. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, has proven experience in staff leadership and program development, and is passionate about building a supportive and engaging fitness culture.

This position will initially involve 40 hours per week focused on administrative and operational duties. The successful candidate may choose to reduce up to 15 of these administrative hours to provide personal training sessions, with an additional hourly rate applied for personal training services.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Recruit, hire, onboard, and train Personal Trainers to ensure full coverage during prime and non-prime hours
  • Approve invoices for Personal Trainers and support the Fitness Centre Supervisor with Fitness Attendant hiring and onboarding
  • Foster a positive, professional, and collaborative workplace culture
  • Serve as the primary contact for member inquiries, concerns, and feedback related to the Fitness Centre and Personal Training programs
  • Collaborate with the Fitness Centre Supervisor to develop small group fitness programs and sport-specific training opportunities
  • Oversee marketing, promotions, and communications for fitness programs
  • Ensure program information is submitted for the Recreation Services Brochure and website updates are maintained
  • Act as liaison to the Fitness Committee, providing updates, support, and guidance
  • Oversee planning, purchasing, maintenance, and replacement schedules for fitness equipment
  • Lead initiatives to strengthen team culture, professional development, and staff engagement
  • Ensure consistent communication of programs, policies, and updates to staff and members
  • Collaborate with the Lifestyle Manager and Group Fitness & Pilates Coordinator to organize quarterly team meetings

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or related field preferred
  • Advanced certification in fitness and performance (e.g., CEP, CSCS, or equivalent)
  • Minimum 5 years of fitness leadership experience, preferably within a private club or recreation facility
  • Proven ability to recruit, train, and lead staff effectively
  • Experience with JaneApp is an asset.
  • Strong program development, communication, and marketing skills
  • Experience in equipment planning, purchasing, and facility oversight
  • Current CPR and First Aid certifications
  • Current liability insurance if providing personal training at the Club
  • Passion for fitness and an active lifestyle, with professional involvement in the sport and wellness industry
  • Flexible availability, including evenings and weekends
