The Director, Sunrise Wealth Management provides strategic and operational leadership for Sunrise Credit Union’s wealth management. Reporting to the Chief Member Experience & Brand Officer, this role is responsible for developing and executing strategies that strengthen client financial well-being, grow investment portfolios, and enhance advisory excellence across the Credit Union.
The Director leads a team of Wealth Advisors, Financial Advisors, and a Wealth Administrator, fostering a customer centric culture of trust, professionalism, and continuous growth. The position ensures that all investment services meet regulatory standards, align with Sunrise’s cooperative values, and deliver outstanding client experiences that support long-term financial relationships.
Key Accountabilities
Strategic Leadership & Business Growth Develop and implement the wealth and investment strategy aligned with the organization’s overall business plan and client value proposition.
Establish financial and growth targets for the wealth portfolio and monitor progress toward objectives.
Leverage data insights to drive client engagement, portfolio growth, and cross-selling opportunities.
Collaborate with Marketing and Business Development to promote wealth services and brand visibility in the community.
Identify new business opportunities and partnerships to expand wealth offerings, products, and services.
Advisory Leadership & Service Excellence Oversee delivery of personalized financial planning, investment, and insurance solutions to meet clients’ long-term goals.
Ensure advisors provide unbiased, ethical, and compliant advice aligned with client needs and cooperative principles.
Maintain high standards of service quality, accuracy, and compliance in all advisory interactions. Set clear expectations and coach to positive outcomes.
Partner with internal teams to ensure smooth client experiences across retail, wealth, and digital channels.
Compliance, Risk & Regulatory Oversight Responsible for development and review of client centric policies and procedures that ensure compliance with all regulations and internal controls.
Oversee licensing, continuing education, and adherence to all regulatory requirements for advisors.
Maintain appropriate documentation, disclosure, and audit readiness for all investment activities.
Work collaboratively with Risk, Compliance, and Audit teams to mitigate potential issues.
Team Leadership & Development Lead, coach, and develop Wealth and Financial Advisors to achieve individual and team performance goals. Review employee development and succession plans for business continuity and employee growth.
Foster a culture of professionalism, collaboration, and continuous learning.
Support employee career growth through mentorship, feedback, and training.
Conduct performance reviews, establish development goals, and support licensing or designation pursuits.
Encourage open communication, shared learning, and alignment with Sunrise’s values.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Integration Collaborate with Branch Managers, Regional Managers, and Business Development teams to identify member needs and referral opportunities.
Work with Marketing, Brand, and Communications to ensure cohesive and compliant messaging and awareness of wealth services.
Participate in enterprise projects, product launches, and technology initiatives impacting wealth operations.
Reporting & Analytics Develop and maintain performance metrics and reporting dashboards for wealth management operations.
Analyze trends in member demographics, product performance, and market competitiveness.
Prepare regular updates for executive leadership and the Board on portfolio performance, compliance, and emerging risks.
Other Duties Represent Sunrise Credit Union at community, professional, and industry events.
Maintain awareness of financial markets, regulatory changes, and investment trends.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Chief Member Experience & Brand Officer.
Education & Qualifications Post-secondary diploma or degree in Finance, Business Administration, or Commerce.
8–10 years in wealth management or advisory services, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Active or eligible for Mutual Funds, IIROC, or Life Insurance license (e.g., MFDA, LLQP, or equivalent).
Strong understanding of financial markets, investment products, and portfolio management principles.
Completion of a professional designation such as Certified Financial Planner (CFP), Chartered Investment Manager (CIM), or Personal Financial Planner (PFP).
Preferred Experience in a credit union, cooperative, or financial institution environment.
Advanced coursework in leadership, compliance, or financial advisory management.
Familiarity with CRM systems, financial planning software, and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
