About the job

In this role, you will:

  • provide engineering expertise to safeguard the well-being of vehicular transportation corridors
  • plan, manage and deliver bridge and infrastructure projects
  • carry out structure rehabilitation design, inspections, hydrology studies and construction liaison
  • lead and provide technical supervision to internal teams of professional engineers and technicians in structural design
  • acquire external consultants, overseeing their work and evaluating performance
  • generate and pursue innovative solutions to ensure wise investment of tax dollars.

What you bring to the team

Mandatory:

  • You are a Professional Engineer, licensed with the Association of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
  • You possess a valid Ontario Class “G” Driver's License.

Technical knowledge:

You have:

  • proven knowledge and experience in structural engineering and design practices pertaining to bridges, culverts and other transportation structures (design, analysis, evaluation, rehabilitation)
  • knowledge of hydrology studies, road design, soils, foundations, and construction practices
  • proficiency working with related structural computer programs
  • demonstrated knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code (CHBDC)
  • working knowledge of structural maintenance, inspections and operations, foundation rehabilitation and hydrology designs, and structural planning

Project management and technical administration skills:

You have:

  • the ability to manage consultant assignments, identify and resolve technical and administrative issues

  • demonstrated abilities in contract preparation and delivery processes

  • proven competency in project management and technical administration of structural projects

  • proven abilities in contract preparation and delivery processes

  • effective organizational skills and the ability to manage concurrent projects.

This position requires the completion of in-house design work and providing your engineering seal to assume professional responsibility for your documents and drawings.

Problem-solving and decision-making skills:

You have:

  • the ability to identify problems, gather necessary information, investigate, interpret, analyze risks and resolve issues
  • effective decision-making skills and the ability to prepare contingency plans and actions
  • the ability to display professional, effective judgement.

Communication, Interpersonal and leadership skills:

You have:

  • verbal communication skills to exchange information, discuss mutual problems and provide or obtain advice
  • written communication skills to prepare correspondence, reports and various documents.
  • interpersonal and leadership skills to ensure effective team work.
