About the role
Join the team that is building a trusted internet for Canadians! CIRA may be best known for managing the .CA domain but our impact reaches far beyond that. We’re at the forefront of advancing cybersecurity technologies and leading projects that improve the digital experience for users across Canada and the world. Our broad scope of activities is driven by one central goal: to strengthen and secure Canada’s digital landscape.
By joining our team, you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, ensuring that the internet remains open, safe and accessible for everyone!
Who you are:
You’re more than just a troubleshooter - you thrive in the challenge of running a global-scale network and data center infrastructure. Complex technical problems don’t intimidate you; they inspire you. With deep expertise in platforms like Cisco ISR/ASR, Juniper MX, Fortinet FortiGate, and Palo Alto, and hands-on experience with Anycast architecture, you know how to keep critical systems running smoothly. You take pride in building secure, resilient, and high-performing networks, and you understand that success comes from working closely with cross-functional teams, global providers, and vendors to implement world-class solutions that keep the internet stable, secure, and always on.
What you’ll do:
-
Support global network operations: Manage and administer CIRA’s worldwide network, ensuring continuous availability and performance across multiple data centers and international points of presence.
-
Ensure reliability at scale: Implement design changes, perform proactive patching, and optimize systems for high availability, reliability, and scalability.
-
Strengthening global security posture: Apply and enforce robust security policies in line with CIRA’s ISO 27001 standards, including firewall management, VPN, and intrusion prevention.
-
Architect resilient infrastructure: Design and implement network topologies and BGP routing policies to deliver low-latency, stable, and efficient connectivity across diverse global networks.
-
Vendor and partner collaboration: Manage relationships with international carriers, colocation providers (e.g., Cologix, Equinix), and hardware vendors (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto) to ensure seamless deployment and ongoing service quality.
-
Maintain operational excellence: Monitor network performance worldwide, troubleshoot incidents, and drive improvements to minimize downtime and optimize user experience.
-
Document and share knowledge: Create and maintain detailed technical documentation, network diagrams, standards, and procedures to ensure resilience and repeatability.
-
Contribute to continuous improvement: Conduct regular network assessments, identify risks, and integrate new technologies and automation practices (Python, Ansible, Terraform) to future-proof our infrastructure.
-
Be part of the frontline: Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule to support critical services that millions of users depend on.
What you bring:
-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
-
5+ years of hands-on experience in network engineering, with a strong focus on global environments and multi-site data center operations.
-
Deep expertise in BGP routing protocols and Anycast network architecture.
-
Proven ability to configure and manage Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, and Palo Alto network devices at scale.
-
Experience with network monitoring and performance tools (e.g., iCinga, SolarWinds, Cloudflare, Kentik).
-
Familiarity with network automation and infrastructure-as-code using tools like Python, Ansible, or Terraform.
-
Strong grounding in network security principles, including firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS.
-
Strong knowledge of DNS and DHCP configuration/management.
-
Hands-on experience with IPv6 deployments in complex, global networks.
-
Professional certifications such as CCNP and/or JNCIP are highly desirable.
